Anyone have any experience with them??
My 2 yr old has got 'pointy' squishy hocks. She isn't lame and there isn't any heat but when u look at her hocks you can tell there is a slight swelling. Someone at the yard told me it looks like big spavins, so I googled and scared myself as saw it could be a sign of DJD!!!
Ringing vet first thing tomorrow :( x

Bog spavins are on the front of the hock, in the bend, they can be a sign of weakness. My old mare had very thick hocks, slight bog spavins and thoroughpins. They never caused her any problems until her late teens when she also got bone spavins

Bog spavins are swellings on the side and front of the hock. If it is this, you should call a vet as it can be a sign of OCD and other things but it could be just a sprain. They will advise bute, cold hosing and box rest initially.

Swelling on the point of hock is called a capped hock. Big horses are prone to these and they are caused by them bashing their hocks on stable walls and floors when they lie down. Good, deep beds and big banks are ideal in preventing these. Get a decent neoprene hock boot and put it on for at least a week and it should go down.

The swellings are on her point of hock, she goes throw her self round her stable at night lol, she is going to start living out for the summer next week so hopefully they will start to go down. Thank you everyone x
