I have a gorgeous coloured cob for sale, he is 14.2hh is absolutely bombproof in every way, has done a few quiet funrides being impeccably behaved, has a lovely willing jump and is hacked out by my 11yo son! He is show quality and has won and placed well in hand.

I have advertised him on horsemart and havent had one phonecall!

He is as safe as houses and a real pleasure but is only 3 so do you think this is what has put people off?

He is priced at 2.7ono which i thought was resonable, but would obviously negotiate.

Views please? Maybe i should just advertise next year, but i really need to sell as my own horse is written off and i need some funds!

Did you mean to type he is only 3?? I would be very put off a 3yr old that had done all that tbh.......I dont know about anyone else??....sorry.....

No he hasnt any vids, Maisy he has been quietly broken, and hacked out and popped over small fences on the odd occasion, showing in hand.... he is fit and healthy and certainly not overworked, he is ridden 2/3 times a week.

You wouldnt find anybody more kind and considerate than me to a horse.

I wouldnt be bothered about how much he had done. However many if not most of those in the market for a bombproof cob are not interested in a 3yo or probably even a 4yo horse. A 3yo of that sort would certainly limit you potential market.

he has done plenty enough for a 3 year old. people are wary of youngsters as they can lite up as they bulk up and strenghthen up, and he still ha a couple of years to grow! and he is not old enough to compete and do RC/PC. and so as such is untried potentially. and the market is crap.

Yes im not an idiot, can i state he certainly hasnt been overworked in any shape or form.

You make me sound like im training him for the grand national!

what a tiny brush fence? On nice soft ground?

Has nobody ever bought a competition horse and seen how they are loose jumped at 1, 2 and 3yrs of age?

Personally I think he's over priced.

Forget that you think he's bombproof, most people won't consider a 3 year old to be so, and I certainly wouldn't pay that much for a 3 year old coloured cob...apologises if that sounds harsh its not meant as such, just trying to give you a buyers perspective.

If you want to get technical it says his age is 3 yrs & 6 months, that would mean he's 4 (rising) and I bet most people would try a little fence at that age!

No thats fine! Im after opinions, it just annoys me when people acuse me of being a horse abuser.

He is about to be turned away as soon as the clocks change, so i will probably leave him till the spring.

You asked and people are giving their honest opinions. You don't have to take them but if people on here are thinking that then so will some of your potential buyers be.

I certainly wouldn't accuse you of that, I found the ad too and think he looks like a really lovely chap, I just think with the way the market is currently you would struggle to sell a youngster of that type for that price.

this is the ad i think??? i personally would want a 3 yr old that had jumped that height that early but each to there own

What height? it is a bunch of twigs!!

I don't think the horse has been overjumped, I think she is more like saying he has a nice easy attitude to go on next year.

I would usually be put off having a youngster but if this little chap were 2 hands bigger he would be in my field.

Daisychain is very knowledgeable and would never mistreat or overwork/face her horses.

your question is why you have had no interest.....I was merely answering.....personally *I* wouldnt touch a 3 yr old that had done that much. I would only expect a 3 yr old to have been sat on very briefly, but certainly not being ridden several times a week......

Bombproof cobs are all i ever look at in the adds because of where i live traffic etc and i dont want to have a lively horse on my hands, but got to be honest i would not buy a three year old i would be thinking what in a such a small space of time can have made him so bombproof. Also alot of cobs go through a bolshy stage when they realize their own strengh and this is when novice hands could ruin him. But he is a lovely looking cob and i,m sure he will sell , but unfortunatley everyone is feeling the pinch and lots of horses are selling for a lot less than they were worth 18 months ago.

No one has said you are mistreating your horses......You asked why you hadnt had any interest, and we are giving opinions as to why......looking at the advert, it gives the impression (and i am not saying that is the truth, merely the impression), that he has done several pleasure rides (which I would assume would mean several miles each), and the professional picture of him jumping would *appear* to have been taken whilst doing a XC competition or something.....

He's absolutely stunning. If I thought I'd have been confident with a youngster, I wouldn't hesitate. I personally bought a horse with age purely to have a 'been there done it' happy hacker tag.

I think your price is a little high, maybe £2,500. But then again most people mark high in order to come down a bit.

He really is lovely and exactly what I was looking for apart from his age. I really wanted a skewbald....

I have broken many horses and ponies, and this one is a true exception, obviously i wouldnt want him to got to a begginer, just somebody who can ride but wants a no nonsence horse.

He really is a sweetheart, and not a problem.

Blimey, I bet you wish you'd never asked

I think he looks super & has done a nice amount of work for a strong cob with a lightweight rider on board.
I do think he is too young for your target market though. Bet you'll do better in the Spring, especially if you can get him out doing some PC....

Any 3yo I have broken and anyone i know who has broken 3yos ride them a couple of times a week for at least a couple of weeks before turning away (unless the horse is particularly backward/immature which is often the case with warmbloods/half breds but raraely if ever applies to 14h cobs). I would fully expect someone who has fully/properly broken a horse to have him ridden 2-3 times minimum per week after breaking until turning away.

But yes, i still think its his age, the fact that bombproof and 3yo dont go together ( yes i know it can, but any "bombproof" youngster is still more likely to light up occasionally than an older "bomproof" horse with life experience).
Also the fact that he would be due a few wks/mths turned away in the field now would not suit those in the market for a bombproof cob - as he would not have all the basics fully reinforced. hence its not the same as turning out a 7/8yo for a few mths over the winter and bringing them back in. More expertise is required on the part of the buyer to bring a previously backed 4yo back into work.
Ok I didnt explain that clearly but hope you get what I mean.

ETA - Ive seen the ad and think hes a smashing cob and nicely marked. Looks super fun, though I think the 5th photo isnt necessary and isnt very complimentary to him.

He looks like a well developed chap, and at rising 4 i see no reason why he should'nt have been hacked out, schooled and popped a small fence or two before he is turned away!I would be more concerned about the 2yr olds they advertise for sale jumping 4ft plus loose
crazy.gif

I do think he is overpriced for his age and the fact he actually isnt proven as an allrounder due to his age!Either hang onto him and do more nxt yr with him,or drop his price!
smile.gif

I think hes lovely but 3 is just a hard age to sell IMO. They can be good at 3 and horrible at 4! If you can afford it I'd leave him until the spring or sell him as an in hand show type.

Yea i think so, he wont hurt out for the winter.

He was a more long term project originally tbh but my own horse has been condemned with navicular, which is heartbreaking and i cant bear to have him pts, so i just thought the cob might just sell.
