I've been using a Bomber Happy Tongue for a while because it was by far the best bit I've found for Ludo's unsteady mouth so far. It never occurred to me that he could be even better, but today I tried him in a pony version that was technically 10mm too small but actually fits very nicely snug without pinching. First day only, but I've never known him so steady or take the contact forward so well.

Anyone else finding Bombers too big? The pony size rings look a bit silly but they don't make the 120mm with horse size rings.

I use Bomber bits for my double and my horse is 125mm in the snaffle and the Weymouth is 120mm. He's 16.1hh but has a very small mouth. I have had no problem getting the sizing.

I was told by Claire at Bombers to go down 5-10mm in their ported bits and to my surprise she was spot on. Mine was previously in a 145mm with fixed cheeks, but has gone down to a 135mm with loose rings ??‍♀️ Ported Barrel, not Happy Tongue though.

Yeah, learned the hard way it needs to be a close fit for the ported things. I'd bought Fin a Happy Mouth bit in 5", which was as fine as any bit is for him, but it was rubbing his mouth. I went up to a 5.25" one. He hated it. He would throw his head for an entire ride. I swapped back to the 5", and he was much happier. I then bought some bit guards, which solved the rubbing problem.

I wish I'd known that before I spent nearly £200 on bits the "right" size! I've had to go eggbutt, they don't do the loose ring in 120 anywhere in the UK that I can find.

I think they come up a little big, but not massively. I also think that if you have been using a jointed bit if it’s.a little large it just hangs lower in the mouth and when you move to the happy mouth it’s more obvious at the sides.

try forelock and load-they hire/sell Bombers and have sorted out my 2 tiny boys at short notice so keep a lot of small sizes in stock :)
