Hi, need to sell my horse and see that bomb-proof.co.uk have similar horses for sale and offer a service to sell your horse for you. However, I'm always wary about dealers. Has anyone ever sold a horse through them and if so what was your experience?

Avoid like the plague, heard many horror stories about their horses. Wouldnt touch anything they have TBH.

How come you are selling him you havent had him long at all? (the dun crillio?)

I thought you were going to do endurance on him?

Sell your horse through a dealer by all means but you need to select the right one. The company you have mentioned has been the subject a various threads over time.....members comments have not been very favorable.

Are you seriously wanting to sell your horse as bombproof?
I've had a quick read of your website and he only sounds suitable to sell to an experienced rider and handler

Im not usually one to dredge up past posts, but Lemonade was posting months ago before she got Banjo about her 'dreams' to do international endurance, and was then posting up links to IMHO unsuitable horses.

As I remember she did get a bit of stick in her posts.

I then remember she bought banjo saying he was so safe, suitable for a novice etc etc, then within a few weeks as I remember he started playing up, and she wanted a sharer for him not long ago.

TBH I think the dream wasnt al it wa cracked up to be in reality.

Lemonade if he is so bombproof why dont you sell him yourself?!

It was the rider having to go to hospital 3 times in 2 months that concerned me more than anything, as well as the rodeo displays

Just doesn't seem something a bombproof horse would do...

Hi, selling him as he is a bit too much for me, need something a bit more chilled out. He hasn't put me off horses, riding, criollos or the planned trip (website), but I don't think its fair on him or myself to continue trying, as I am a bit wary of getting back on him after having had a couple of bad accidents. I was looking at bombproof purely because they are currently selling criolllos and I have not been able to sell him privately (have had him up for sale for past 3 months).

absolutely

In my defence, I'm not selling him as bombproof at all!! I ONLY considered getting them to sell him as they have criollos (his breed) at the moment and they do not sell privately owned horses as bombproof. Yes I did get a lot of stick and thats why I haven't been on here in a while but thought I'd try again for some advice...

Well, bombproof aren't really the most reputable dealer anyway, so really, who knows what they would describe your horse as? If I was specifically looking for a forward-going Criollo, I wouldn't necessarily go to Bombproof, either, so the odds on them selling the horse to spmeone who specifically wants a Criollo as opposed to a bombproof horse are quite low, don't you think?

Criollos do seem to be getting popular at the moment. Why not sell him yourself?

if he really is a bad rearer/bucker the project horses is probably your best bet. Yes you may lose money on him but surely that is better than hurting yourself or someone else?

Thanks Trundle, doing my best with the private selling thing. I was done over by a dealer hence hesitation on selling through one. Will persevere with own ads. Dealer I bought him from assured me he was bombproof/suitable for novice etc as St_Bernard says, which as I am sure you can see is not true. Still going on international trip as haven't been put off

aw banjo looks lovely what a shame you hav had a rough time with him and i hope all your aches and pains are better now. imho i think that you should try and sell him yourself first as i keep hearing bad things about the company, why don't you contact the criollo farm and see if they know anyone who wants a criollo horse?? like moi!! lol in my dreams. good luck with your search for a new home and keep me posted on how you get on!! x

Fair enough. You're probably better selling him privately through project horses. A dealer probably wouldn't give you more than £250-500 for him.

Of course, project horses sounds tlike the ideal place!

and at least you know that the buyer will know what they are getting, ie not being misled by a dealer, so hopefully that will mean he wont be passed from pillar to post.

I wouldnt give bombproof my horses crap, let alone my horse!

I would give project horses a go!

I know it probably goes without saying, but you have had back, tack and teeth checked havent you?

It does seem stange that he went from an angel when you tried him , to a dangerous horse.

Espec given the amazing experience he has and trainig.

do you think perhaps he has just got used to getting away with taking the mick?

@ Lemonade - where did you get your Criollo from? I am thinking of getting one because I want a chilled out horse for hacking and sponsored rides - but now you have gotten me worried if your Criollo has turned out to be not what you expected. I thought they were renowned for their placid temperaments?

I have read all your various posts. I agree - don't touch Bomb-proof and do get in touch with the Criollo farm. They may well take him for you and get him going again. In his defence - he is a horse that is probably used to living out in a large herd and doing a lot of work. I know two people with Criollos - but they are advanced endurance horses and do a lot of work, which they thrive on. Please PM me with the link to the advert.

TBH if you have been injured, you are understandably nervous and my advice would be to sell him. I remember when you first bought him, he had to be kept in a lot - with little turn out and limited exercise. I would guess he would be different with unlimited turnout and a lot of exercise - but in your shoes, I would still sell him. I think the Criollo Farm would certainly give you some helpful advice. But I would be interested to see the advert.

My horse is from Criollo farm. They too specialise in selling to nervous riders but also have Criollos that are 'finer' types and go onto polo etc.
