I didn't have a lot of time before work and it was horribly windy and looked like rain, so I figured I'd save taking him out alone for another day...again! I will get there eventually :P

More bombproofing :) I got the beachball idea from JFTD. I thought Ned would at least have a snort at the beachball...but nope! Didn't care.

Most of this is just for fun, but we do actually come across some of this stuff when we hack. Especially in one area, which people seem to think is the local tip :\

^^ That is very cute!

Aww what a little star, the bit where you were kicking the beach ball at him and he didn't even move made me laugh out loud! He's gorgeous!!

Lovely boy, his taking it all in his stride bless him. And very cute how he follows you around.

This thread has given me the kick up the bum I needed to start doing this again with Ruby (as well as some new ideas) so thanks :)

Loving the flag one too...good stuff, he looks really unfazed..my big spooky boy met scary plastic bag on a stick today too...it's having a great de-spooking effect on him too..must dig out my umbrella for next time! :)

Thanks everyone! Glad I've inspired a few of you :D

There is no way I could have done this with him a year ago. He would have spooked, spun and probably kicked me for good luck!
He's coming on a long way with his hind legs too. I couldn't even brush his tail!
Today I gave all his legs a thorough brush :D He was sooo good!!

What did you do to progress with his legs...? I have one like this who although I can brush his tail, will not let you near his hinds for love nor money...it's a work in progress let's just say...very slow progress! ;)

That's great! The flag on the head picture is brilliant, such a resigned expression on his face! He looks totally un-fazed by it all, you're going to have to up your game a bit and find some more scary things for him! :p You've obviously got a brilliant bond with him.

I once acquired one of those giant exercise ball things (like a giant beach ball made of very light rubber, I think you're supposed to sit on them to improve your balance or something). I thought that'd be at least a little bit scary for a horse terrified of funny coloured leaves... 2 mins into the session I was bouncing it off her bum while she grazed away, totally unconcerned

Cobiau Cymraeg Wyllt - I used Mr. Stick (the bag on the stick) so if he kicked out, he simply got the bag and not me. I also spent a lot of time before and after rides stroking his back and slowly getting further and further down each time.
I was very impressed that he only kicked Mr. Stick once and not very hard at that!

Mollyblob - I have one of those balls! I should take it along :P and your horse sounds a bit like Ned. He isn't bothered by heavy traffic, or massive lorries, but the sound of someone of gravel, or a lead rope left on the floor will terrify him! Which reminds me, I must get him over his fear of "snakes" :P

Lol, the beach ball kick bit made me giggle - its the sort of thing I'd end up doing :D whoops! He was so well behaved though...are you rewarding him with food throughout or is he just that inquisitive? I noticed a few 'yummy treats, gimme gimme' type faces (at least that's what they'd be if it was G or any of his fatso buddies!)

Please be careful with your lunge line though - I speak from experience and trust me, it's not funny at the time at all when you let line get on the floor and your leg gets round it, steed notices and moves off a bit sharply leaving you on the floor cursing, having had your legs wiped out from under you! I can see the funny side now but many people would recoil in horror at a loopy, untidy lunge line. Whilst I won't do that, I do now make an effort to keep it neat and coiled nicely so it can't get caught around an arm, leg or hand.
Hey, anyway, the weather has perked up now (it has here anyway) so get back out riding that pony please!

I dont treat him for doing well at his bombproofing, he just gets verbal praise, but he does get a treat when he goes back in his pen. I had some treats in my pocket and he knew :-P
Re: lunge line - yea, im awful at keeping it neat! Ive never lunged before or really used one at all before i started this sort of work with neddy. Hopefully ill brave going out alone on friday :-P beautiful weather today, i wish i could do it now!

Me too, unfortunately my steed is a bit of a mental head at the moment having had a couple of months mincing around putting on weight and I've only ridden once since baby arrived so should really be keepin to sedate walks...he has other ideas though! Go enjoy a good gallop for me :D

Ebony - I can't believe how far he's come! I never thought I'd be able to have silly games with him :D

Aprilblossom - Oh how I wish I could gallop with Neddy! Sadly, until Monday I'm stuck riding alone, but hopefully whoever I'm riding with on Monday wants a good blast :P Neddy is damn quick! Managed to match one of the ex racers once :O
I can't wait until I can gallop with him alone though :D
EDIT: Congrats on the baby too! I had no idea :D
