I have a horse called molly. She’s my first horse (I've had a pony but that’s different to a horse in some way) and because I've had her a while I don’t spend as much time with her as I did when she was new. I wanted to know if anyone ahs any good ways to bond with your horse. I know grooming is good and I groom her everyday! But I just wondered if there is any other ways too?
I think im not as close to her as I used to be because when she was new I was spending every free moment I had with her, but now I have other things to do as well as look after her, but I want to stay close to her so any tips would be great!!

Thumper decided that 'bonding' with me was a great thing to do (once he'd discovered that I usually had pony nuts in my pocket!).

Seriously though - if you don't spend time with them - I think it's difficult to expect a strong relationship to be built.

Spend 10 mins every day just stroking her quietly. I spend alot of time just stroking or scratching Arch, he completely relax's like putty in my hands!

Join up! It makes them bond with you even if they don't want too

it's a case of like me or you'll have to work really hard. My girl join up and stands pulling faces behind my back, I swear if she had a middle finger it would be flying high

To be honest you really do have to spend so much time with them, just giving the so much love and attention. How old is your mare?

If you build a great bond with her then the better time you will have with her!

Going on lots of hacks has helped me get to know and bond with my horse. I've had him just over 5 months and are getting to know each other quite well now.

Yup - time and a real "connection". If you're looking for something a bit different, bombproofing stuff like the police horses or Trec horses do is a good relationship builder too x

Attention and more attention. Don't push it though, only give as much as your horse wants, when my arab has had enough she'll gnash her teeth at you.

My lot will do anything for a good scratching session, the mare and foal roam the garden and were BOTH in the gazebo with us sheltering from the sun, I can't get rid of them sometimes and Heaven help you if you sit down, Baby always comes over for a scratch.

I feel really close to Nelly when I go into her stable and she's lying down. If I'm not in a hurry I just siti in the straw with her and sroke her gently and cuddle up to her. I even sit on her back and stroke her neck which she likes. I love being with her when she's all relaxed and sleepy.

Grooming, scratching, stroking, I like to sit in the stable and talk to Jake. Also doing some ground work and 'fun things'.

Mostly though, I would say grooming and scratching.
