It appears daughters horse may have a couple of bone chips in her hock. She tore a ligament back in july, vet didn't diagnose it until scanning end of aug. box rest since then, scanned again this week. The ligament is looking good but there appears to be a couple of bone chips, 3 & 4 mm. She will be xrayed next week to double check.
What are people's experiences of removing chips? Has it worked regarding soundness? Really gutted.

In the summer she would trot up sound and then would go lame ridden, hacking. Her flexion is not as good as it should be and she is slightly lame after the flexion test. Vet is saying to refer her for an arthroscopy after the X-rays if necessary. Never had anything like this before, the really frustrating thing is her back foot slipped off the concrete outside her stable (15cm approx) and we had only had her 3 wks!!

My mare had a Arthroscopy performed at Leahurst on her hock due to a bone chip, unfortunately the chip was quite large and over time had scored the surrounding Cartiledge to the point that her hock would just 'give way'.

She never came sound from the operation and we battled for a year to get her sound (she had other issues going on as well), final x-ray showed significant early onset arthritis in the hock, so with her other injury i made the sad decision to pts.

Sorry, hope your case is not so bad.
