Bone Oedema / abnormal fluid signal.... help

My horse has had an MRI and has been diagnosed with bone oedema 'abnormal fluid signal' to the side of the cannon bone in his right fore, there is very little information on this type of problem online and I'm interested to see if anyone else has or is going through this problem with their horse.

As recommended by the vet my horse has been on rest (but not box rest) for 6 weeks and he is still just as lame but they have said it can take up to 6 months, but there is no guarantee it will improve.

Would love to hear from anyone that may have been through something similar.

Generally speaking, most horses I’ve known to have it respond very well to rest! So I’d continue with your vets instructions, I admit most horses I knew were on paddock rest for 3-4 months. Good luck

I think it refers to changes that are only picked up by MRI. Friend's horse had this, vet called it a bone bruise. Also said that it showed damage that could have led to fracture due to abnormal stresses on the bone. Horse was on box rest for weeks, made a full recovery.

For those that responded, thank you, to update you, over 6 months on the follow up MRI showed that the bone oedema had gone all together! sadly he has another problem I am trying to rehab him through which is causing lameness on the same leg.
