My pony is booked in for a full bone scan in a couple of weeks at Liphook Equine Hospital and I was just wondering if others have had the procedure here (they have always been my vets and I trust them whole heartedly but have never had a procedure done like this) and their experiences. In particular, how long was your horse there, when could you visit and how much for a full scan?
I'll find all experiences helpful to read about as I've only ever been in a situation of an obvious injury before and never going down the diagnostics route (pony has slight lameness but very subtle and nerve blocking up to knees didn't help, also difference in opinion of location - although I agree with the current opinion of near fore and off hind but other people seeing other areas is an indication of how subtle it is)

Hi, yes she's seen by a physio to have regular once over maintenance sessions as she started her competitive life later and her back is fine.
I'm happy with the areas we are looking in due to her history etc so just really interested in experiences of bone scans.

I have always had really good reults from bone scanning.
I had one done in April in his case he was not slightly lame he was found unable to move but nothing could be found to account for it.
After a week in horsepital he was transported ( by me , nightmare ) to have a bone scan result broken rib right at the front biazzre thing not a mark on him .
Hopefully you will get a good answer from your horses bone scan it it will give you a good overall view of your horses bone health .
So if for instance he's got a bony foot problem and bony back problem plus hocks brewing an issue you will get good indications of this from the bone scan .
Once they have bone scanned the horse has to be isolated for I think it's two days days ( you won't be able to see him during this time which is horrible )and the vet have time to think about the results based on what they found they will go on to X-ray or MRI or use diagnosic ultrasound on any areas the scan has highlighted .
 
I had a Mare have a bone scan there 6 years ago. I think the scan itself off the top of my head cost £1500 (scan only, not including subsequent tests and x rays and livery costs) Ask for a quote, they'll be able to give you one and they usually advise you inform your insurance company before you go and they'll prob ask for one.

You can't visit for 48 hours afterwards.
