I have just bought a 3year old Connemara and was wondering if people have any recommendations of books/videos for bringing on a young horse?

In future I am hoping to event him but would love a book that has some tips, very basic exercises and just general help with a young horse.

P.S We will be having weekly sessions with an instructor so it will just be to supplement/get some other tips from our instructor.

Thanks x

Hello!

I think the starting point here is what is your level of knowledge and experience?

Hello!

I am 17 years old and have been riding pretty much all my life. I have ridden and owned many horses and evented/competed them at 1m+. I brought on a very very green 5 year old last summer so have some experience bringing on green horses but never anything as young as 3.

I also have a very horsey family that have lots of experience with young/difficult horses that will be there to help me every step of the way.

Hope this helps :)

I like "Train your young horse" by Richard Maxwell. I find that doing things with them gradually to build them up to the day you finally get on really helps. My up and coming three year old comes out ponying with us now and again, so she's seen traffic, is seeing lots of different things, has a saddle, gets long reined for short sessions every now and again, is handled and has been to some shows.
