It was Boo's first ever outing in an indoor arena and only his 4th dressage test to date

Not only that, it was my first time competing on him since we bought him in June 2006!!

We arrived with it raining and a bit windy but those who know the Grange will know that the weather is usually worse there than anywhere else

I had to get Boo tacked up straight away and on him so he had plenty of time to have a good look around and get used to his surroundings. It did cross my mind that he could be a complete twit but I was pleasantly surprised with the way he just took it all in and behaved himself very well.
He warmed up beautifully and I was beginning to think that he was going to pull off a half decent test but the minute I got into the arena he decided that because there wasn't another horse in sight, there was nothing to concentrate on and tensed up and just couldn't maintain an even stride and kept lifting his head which made him look unlevel

We managed to wobble our way through the test and finished it without any real drama. He ended up on a really awful score of 53.6% and was the worst test in the section

But today wasn't about going out and winning it was all about being out there and doing it.

The second test was so much better but in mine and my trainers opinion was very harshly marked

He flowed much better, kept a better over all rhythm and his transitions were a lot smoother, his mark was marginally better 53.9% and was bottom again.

However I thoroughly enjoyed today, was extremely pleased with the little chap and am looking forward to the next outing

Have put some pics in Gallery but my hubby took them with his new camera which he is experimenting with so not brill.

Thanks E, not at all bothered by the marks, my main aim is to get him out often so it all becomes second nature to him and he relaxes about it all. He is such a good boy to do, I'm now so glad that mum has decided not to sell him but keep him for me to carry on with **looks to the sky** thanks nan

Will prob have a jumping lesson next but it's all good for him.

Porter ?

Sounds like a successful outing really as he was nice and calm overall. If it helps my youngster got these marks in his first couple of tests as he couldn't balance and canter but rapidly increased to late 60s once he matured. It's all about getting out there and the experience for them at this stage - well done.

Porter.... no comment! shouldn't be alowd on List 6 as should Powell and Ginger!!!
I wouldn't worry about the scores, just look at as a favourable experience for your horse!!

NO! It wasn't her either. It was Helen someone (I think) Mum has got the test sheets and I just can't blimmin remember. Little woman with short dark grey hair. I'm sure she was the same judge who spun me in the dressage at the Wiegersma's ODE on my old eventer. He was acting the prat because he could see the xc and just wouldn't relax

Mutley Plain, Plymouth - you are obviously working hard like me !

Bumblingabout - I thought I was the only one with a thing about Porter - I usually head for home when I see her car !

Yep, that's who it was, Helen Shepherd, well done! She called me over and asked if my horse was "quite right?" I said "Um, yeah, it's his first time indoors, he's a baby (in his head) and he's extremely tense" Duh. She said she was blaming it on me! So I just laughed and said that that was fine
