I wondered if anyone else would be intrested in something like this for people who have just got a new horse or have just had a new horse for a few months.
Who need confidence building on flat xc sjing etc
I myself am getting a new horse shortly but would love to know if there are people out there who would help give support as its very exciting and also nerve racking
Just ideas
Two or three days
camping fun and a meal bbq
Lessions in groups or one to one

I know there are active rider camps which are fab but i was thinking more on a one to one basics would anyone like to help
Ideas good or bad

OP - have you been reading these sad posts about new horses etc.? Really sad for the horses and the new owners.

I'm getting worried I have to say as I'm due to collect new horse in a couple of weeks and would so love to be one of those good stories, not a lesson for others! So yes, all the advice and tips I can get will be very welcome was thinking of putting up a thread soon asking for advice on settling in a new horse. Reckon I will need it !

I think intensive camps can be great, and are good at cementing partnerships, but I wouldn't think they would be ideal for very, very new partnerships.

One of the most important things when you first get a horse is getting him used to 'you', 'home' and 'routine' (even if it is not a set routine ;) ) You don't want to be putting too much pressure on you or on the horse.

I would worry that an 'away' camp would be even more stressful for the horse, and the intensive lessons (especially if it was group lessons or had an audience) would put extra pressure on both horse and rider to 'perform'.

Time, persistence and a kind friend or two to reassure/give you a kick up the backside as required :p are more important initially IMO :)

Good luck with your horse. You do hear plenty of horror stories on here, and they do happen, but as with all things you only ever tend to hear the very best or very worst that can happen. Mostly it's somewhere in between ;) :)
