Booting for travelling...

I always use a full set of travel boots. Making sure they have good hock protection and reinforced heels.

I have had a few incidents where travel boots have saved legs...... so i dont go anywhere without them now. :)

I don't bother. When delivering my gelding the new owner asked me to boot up for her. Within ten minutes I had stopped to take them off, he was booting hell out of my friends new trailer.
Soon as they were off, he was fine - arrived without even sweating up!

I don't like adding thick padded cumbersome things to a horses legs - they are already getting hot as it is physically hard to be transported and then you go make their legs even more itchy and warm by thwacking on more padding.

If i could bandage i would. But if I ever do boot, I used over reach and brushing boot.

I might use my schooling wraps but usually nothing.

If you shio them abroad you dont boot or wrap so an hours trip should be fine

Always boot up, no matter how short the journey. Not worth the risk not to! With regards to horses booting the trailer with them on - you have to get the horse used to them, put them on in the stable for 15 mins for 3 or 4 days and he'll be fine.

I think it depends on the horse.

While i try and boot up with full length travel boots i have a horse that can't stand them and will just about tolerate pads and bandages. I have another that won't have anything on his legs...freaks out!!!

Otherwise as a rule boots on.

My horses both have unshod feet so I don't worry overly about them when travelling. If they're going far they get bandages but otherwise nothing at all. They don't travel often and don't wear boots at home so they both just get cross with travelling boots on.

I always boot and on long journeys bandage and boot... There is so much in a box/trailer that a horse can bang itself on so a bit of padding goes a long way

Really does depend on the horse - if it is young and has never had boots on before then they are more likely to stress them out but if not I would NEVER travel without something on their legs - at the absolute minimum some brushing boots all round.

After nearly losing a horse because he trod on his boots and they slipped ( he freaked in lorry) I only ever use over reach boots and/or brushing boots/wraps.

I don't use travel boots anymore - every set I have had always slip and end up causing more problems than they solve. For local travelling I put either brushing boots or exercise bandages and over reach boots on - whatever they are going to be ridden in basically

I have to be honest i can't think of anything worse, all claustrophobic and worse, bundled up in those awful clumsy boots.

Bandages or brushing boots etc yeah - they are ergonomic - but gerg travel boots YUG!

As people say - depends upon the horse.

The best thing you can use is your normal brushing boots and over reach boots.

Horse Transporters do not use anything on horses legs
