Hiya. Heres a question to all barefoot and booted people. I have a tb mare who us on box rest for a while and as winter is coming soon (shudders) I was thinking about taking her shoes off however she is a complete softy and if she loses a shoe she goes quite footy and if its off too long she goes lame, for example during appleby week I couldnt get a hold of my farrier so she had a shoe off for over a week and she developed bruising and an abcess so she is VERY thin soled so im assuming I wouldnt be able to take her shoes off without vets bills and pain so I am wondering about boots. Would I be able to leave them on all of the time during her box rest and when she is eventually turned out and what about in winter and in the mud? Or am I being daft and should I just keep her in shoes?
P.S. Thanks for reading and I apologise about the LONG!! essay I just wrote

I've often been told that 'thin soled' is genetic or conformational. Only to find that with appropriate diet and tlc the thin soles 'miraculously' get nice and thick.

As a starter for 10 - check out your mare's diet and make sure your farrier doesn't touch her sole with anything more than a hoof pick and brush.

If your horse is sore when turned out you could turn her out in boots as a temporary measure.
