We've had Boots the retired greyhound a few months now and he is part of the family for definate, such a chararcter :D

I wasn't up too much and OH was working away and the pony is on box rest so I decided to take Boots to a local show on Sunday. I figured it would keep us both entertained and we'd both meet new people (2 and 4 legged).

I gave Boots a bit of a bath before we went as we'd been for our ususal muddy walk through the fields, he seems to love the hairdryer :D We bundled into the landrover and pootled long in the sunshine windows down *roadtrippin* (it was only 30 mins away lol).

Got to the show mooched round and entered 2 classes *dog 5-7yrs* and the Northumberland Greyhound class. We stood and chatted in the sunshine and met the lady from the trust again, who called him the 'dog we thought we'd never rehome' and he got lots of cuddles from his old dog walkers and made friends with Maggie, Hector, Barney and others :D

We went into the first class and did our thing then waited in the final line up of 11 in the class. The judge started to hand out rosettes, once he'd handed out the 4th place and 3rd place I figured we weren't going to get one and we had big cuddles :D

I was wrong, he handed us a red frilly!!!!! OVER THE MOON doesn't cover it, I couldn't believe it :D Boots was so well behaved and took it like a pro, I almost bubbled, but my need for the loo took over and I nipped to take Boots for a drink and me to the ladies, seems I forgot to give our names to one of the stewards who followed me to the loo *oops spot the newbie*

Here is the clever poppet having a well earned break

He managed to greed a bit of salmon sandwich off Sue his former walker and a bit of apple muffin of me :o Then we went for the next class, 8 in total dogs and bitches all from the Northumberland branch. We strutted our stuff and got awarded another *huge* first place rosette, cue a slightly leaky eye and lots of cuddles from a Boots who wasn't sure what he's done to warrant so much fuss!!! :D :D

We went into Best in Show and came joint second :D I am mega proud of my darling and we're off to the Greyhound Gathering to represent Northumberland on 15th Sept which is v exciting

Boots was such a superstar so we went to P@home to choose some sweeties, so he has charcoal biccies and assortment of chews! He had a well earned sleep that night as the poor boy was shattered at being out and about all day and is back to being full of beans as usual :D

He can be quite boisterous and is a big-ish greyhound which I think put people off, plus he wasn't always very friendly with people.

Also he was kenneled alone as he was dominant with the bitches he was kenneled with so couldn't be re-homed with any other pets. They are all surprised to see how he's changed and is a very friendly dog now (he cuts people up out walking so he can have cuddles). Now he socialises with other greyhounds and larger dogs to the point that he has a GSD girlfriend :D He spent 9 months in kennels before my OH and I took him home!

Thank you :D

Well done to Boots and you, what a result.:)

It just goes to show if they are in rescue for a long time their personalitys can get hidden, well done for doing a grand job with him.

I can't take the credit, he has been the easiest dog I have ever had the pleasure of looking after to be fair! He house trained himself and all I really taught him was his name (didn't seem to know it) and how to give me his paw for cheese :D

He can be a tinker (caught him chewing a bottle of shampoo last week) but he isn't particularly naughty or nasty and very definatley a Mummy's boy ;) He just needed to be out of the kennels, like you say it just shows you how they can change for the better :D

I'm mega proud of him :D
