Boots for a broken ankle!

Just wondered if anyone can recommend any boots with great ankle support and protection? I came off feet-first team chasing 7 weeks ago, shattered my ankle and ruptured most of the tendons and ligaments into the bargain, not pretty, and I now have enough metalwork in there holding it together to open a small hardware store.

Obviously I'm going to ignore the advice of the doctor not to participate in 'such high risk activities' again but I would like to get myself a really good pair of boots that will help protect my ankles as much as possible from any similar falls. Any suggestions gratefully received as they're going on my Christmas list :) thanks!
 
As above. As someone who has broken the same ankle 3 times (twice off horses) there are no boots that will prevent it happening again I'm afraid. However, a good sports splint may help, but they're quite bulky so would buy that and then the boots so you know that it fits.
 
I broke my ankle last year and was recommended ariat boots for support. They won't stop me doing it again.... Well I won't be trying to land on my feet again, that's for sure! ..... But they do make it comfortable and supported to ride. I have the ariat h2o bromonts. They are supportive as well as having the elastic laces at the front of the ankle, my plate is at the front and I couldn't wear my mountain horse boots as the fold in the leather pressed on my plate. The ariat give and don't press on the plate but still support. They also have extra give if I have a swollen ankle day! :D

having a persistant ankle problem, due to a bone cyst and many operations left it very weak, i suggest the mountain horse sportive high riders, i swear by these boots they look good when they are polished up for competition yes they are slightly chunkier than the likes of mark todd or ariats but they seem to have the support in them for me, i also have a short pair of mountain horse boots aswell for wearing everyday, mainly because the ankle support fits in both of the mountain horse boots enabling walking not to hurt to much
 
hi, i have recently broken my leg and ankle well shattered like you, i also have metal work insert. what boots have you found to help you since you posted this? i am looking for a good supportive yard boot. your comment would be much appericated :)
 
As a physio, a couple of words of caution:
Do you actually need support (i.e. have been told by a physio or similar)? If not you could cause more damage than good.

If you do need one, what are you trying to achieve, what movement are you trying to prevent? Different supports do different things.

Generally my advice is to go for something that you can lace up as you can adjust the tightness at different heights to suit swelling, pain etc. and something with a broad heel base so it is less likely to tip on uneven ground. I personally wear the Woof Wear ones on offer on Eq Clearance as I like the padding, shape and sole.
 
I have mountain horse sportive high riders and was extremely glad I was wearing them when I had my accident in October last year, 7 breaks of the leg foot and ankle, still in pot and leg is still broken, but I fear it would have been worse had I been wearing my lighter weight showing boots.
I think they are supportive but nothing can prevent further breaks if the force is great enough x
