boots for jumping in (for horse)

Hey all,

I'm completey clueless when it comes to such boots as i've always had hairy chunky cob types.

Well we've now a TB cross and my daughter had money so decided to buy boots today. I asked her if she knew what she needed etc. And she said yes, she bought them and horse has worn them.

I'm just not sure she had them on right, or maybe she did and they're not the right type of boot?

So could someone help me out by posting a pic of boots on right so i know.

And is there more than one type? What is a brushing boot? Different to ones you'd jump in? See i really don't have a clue about boots

hiya x brushing boots are for when the horses brush their legs together and look like this

lots of people jump in tendon boots though which are

(they have an open front and support the tendons)

do your daughter's horses's boots look anything like these? obviously many different designs and things x hopefully i helped



oh and also over reach boots when they clip their front feet with the back but these probably arent what u mean

Yes they look like the first ones you list, so she's bought 4 brushing boots
But she did have them on right and the protection being to the inside of the leg is what made me wonder. I was struggling to see how they would help with show jumping.

I will tell her. Sadly she can't return them as they're scuffed already. Mind you that may suggest he needs brushing boots.

I should stick to my coblets, far easier lol.

A lot of people do use brushing boots for jumping as well as general work, as they still offer protection to the leg, just not as much to the back (tendon area). What level is she jumping at, will she be doing it regularly? Does the horse bring the back legs close to the front ones when it lands, or is she just using them as a precaution?
Some people prefer to use tendon boots (open fronted) as they allow the horse to feel if they've knocked a pole, whereas brushing boots (closed fronted) mean they don't feel the knock as badly. They do also offer more support to the tendon area than brushing ones. For cross country etc many people prefer to use close fronted boots as they will protect the front of the leg from knocks off solid objects, so depending on the make of brushing boot (and how tough the outer is) they would be good for that kind of thing. i use brushing boots for jumping so they should be fine im sure they will still offer support and protection for the horse and ye im sure your right...if their scuffed then he/she probably does brush a bit xxx

Thanks Starryeyed - the horse is just 3 and just backed so we don't know yet if he needs any kind of boot. But the plan is for him to be for show jumping, it's my daughters thing.
Money burns a hole in my daughters pocket basically and she just wanted boots
