Hi everyone, just after some advice on booting. I have a 13 yo ISH who I event at BE100. This time ladt year he came in hopping lame and upon investigation the vet found soft tissue damage in the near fore leg. After lengthy box rest and hand walking I started riding him again in May. We have spent the summer hacking in walk gently. We then introduced short bursts of trot in August and slowly built this up. We have now started short controlled canter and everything seems to be going well. Next week I would like to take him back in the school to do some light schooling.
My question is that now I am upping his workload and starting to ask a bit more should I be booting him for extra support? Ive only ever booted to prevent knocks cross country so Im not really sure what i should be looking for?
Thanow!

Echo that. If you need support then bandage. But check with your vet first and be sure that you know how to do it correctly. If you do it wrong you can make matters worse.

my wrist can sometimes be painful (from an old injury) and if i am at the yard i put on a wrist support when i am mucking out/moving hay etc and it really helps and stops the wrist getting worse so surely it must be the same for horses .

If you can restrict the flexion of the joint then sure, you can reduce the strain to the ligaments around it. That's just not practical with how a horse's fetlock works though, if you set about constructing something which is restrictive enough to reduce fetlock flexion you open up numerous other potential causes of harm to the rest of the structures in there. Your wrist doesn't have to deal with over a tonne of force transferring between it and the ground.
