I'm hopefully taking my boy in a few weeks time x country. I have never been before and going with a very experienced friend. Looking to just just pop over 2ft fences and through the water, nothing too taxing.

What boots would you recommend for my boy? He currently wears overreach boots everyday but nothing else. Want to make sure he's fully protected.

I went to my first XC today and spent 2 weeks looking for the best boots, I bought premier equine air flow boots (original style)

They are brilliant! kept the legs very cool compared to the other boots I had on the back legs and survived many scrapes looking good as new- also dried out in about 15 minutes after spending much time in the water.

Cost about £50 inc p+p

Ditto agree premiere equine

I have to disagree with PE boots the XC air cooled ones anyway, had two pairs and both after a couple of months use the Velcro would not stick correctly and would un-do and boots slip down. Total waste of money, never buy them again.

Prolite. Never move a millimetre, don't rub, don't absorb water and excellent protection. I chuck mine in washing machine on warm wash(don't think you're sposed to tho!) and still pretty much as new, after 4yrs.

I personally use sports wraps, give great support to the legs, don't get heavy when wet, and protect the leg all round, after 4 years of good use they are still going strong and have plenty of life still left in them, tbh they don't look like i've been using them much!
here's a link to some on ebay, if you type in : medicine boots, there will be loads that come up, ranging from £20-£145 per pair.
