Hi all,

I'm a newbie having ridden for a little while pre-shut down but v. much looking forward to getting back to it when my stable opens up again.
Just before lockdown I bought my first helmet and now looking at boots.
What style / brand would you suggest for a beginner? Happy to spend a wee bit for something that's more likely to last.

These would be for riding only as have my old du barrys for everything else.

Thanks! :)

Short boots and chaps would probably be my go to. If you're happy to spend a bit get ariats, the tech in them is fab but be warned you'll soon be wearing them for everything as they're comfortable.
For chaps, just a pair of synthetic shires chaps have always been fine for me

My instructor recommended Ariat Bromonte boots, I was measured and fitted in a shop because of my odd shape - wideish calves and small feet (child’s size so no VAT ?). Had them 3 years, for 2 x weekly lessons plus grooming/pottering after, they have been excellent. Mine are the thermal/insulated ones.

I second this short Ariat boots/cheap half chaps combo. :)

I usually wear short boots and chaps, but both have worn out. I just bought a pair of Brogini tall boots to replace them because it was actually cheaper. They almost look a bit too smart! But they fit me very well.

I prefer the support of long boots over short boots & chaps but everyone's different - either way Ariat's are my go to for boots.

I haven't had Ariat chaps but have some Tredstep chaps that have been going for about 10 years, although they only tend to get worn on hot summer days now.
