Boots to reduce legs filling in stable

Thermatex leg wraps are brilliant for this, you can sometimes get very reasonably priced ones on ebay.

or try Premier Equine.. they have a god selection of different types depening on exactly what you want :)

personally I always go for the 'wick away' types so that they can be put on wet/damp legs if necessary

I quite like Thermatex leg wraps, but if legs are filling the only way to prevent that is to bandage. Boots don't give enough support to prevent legs from filling.

I discussed this with my vet recently (specialized equine vet). As the "filling" is largely cosmetic and goes down quickly as soon as my horse is exercised he advised to leave it be. He thought that bandaging in particular could further damage the lymphatic system so in the long term actually make it worse. He also mentioned to check that the protein in the diet was not too high as in some horses this can worsen the condition. Mainly the advice was as large a stable as possible, and plenty of exercise/turnout. My livery yard have been fab and he was moved to a huge box and the legs have been so much better they are only filled now if I get to him and he is lying down with them tucked under him.

This is my understanding also ^^^^^^^^

Bandaging, done correctly, is not damaging. This is from someone who wrapped a vet's horse daily for a couple of months. Having said that I look into other reasons why legs are stocking up. Mine are all in at night and don't stock up. So I want to get to the root of the problem.

Mine only fills up when he first starts coming in and if left they become sore to touch. Pop some stable bandages on and the still fill slightly but they arnt sore and a little exercise and they disappear so I bandage for his comfort.

I bought some magnetic stable chaps years ago which really helped keep swelling down. They don't fit tight, just secure enough round the fetlock so they don't slip down.
The magnets broke so I still use them without the magnets and they still work. If I leave them off his legs swell, I pop them on at night and no swelling at all in the morning :)
I would also get wicking ones, you can't bandage or boot with muddy legs anyway, so wicking ones will help to dry them quickly.

my friend has just bought roma stable boots for under £30 a pair, i used to have veredus stable boots and they were brill:D

Since I started using equilibrium stable boots over night, my 19year old tbs leg have hardly filled at all.
I also found bandaging when schooling instead of using boots has helped a lot.

My boys legs fill due to having windgalls which only ever fill when hes in during the winter and I use gamgee with thermatex leg wraps and this reduces the filling although doesnt stop it completly.

Legs filling is a sign of a sluggish circulation system. It's not a sign of a healthy horse even though it is common. The liver or kidneys may not be working as they should.

I use a magnetic leg band my horses wear them 24/7 in and when turned out only taken off when exercising - work wonders on filled legs and windgalls!:)

I've just bought some Roma stable boots for £21.99 from equestrian clearance and they have kept my mares legs down. They fill when she is stabled and usually go down quite quickly with exercise but I've noticed that it seems to be taking longer for them to go down which is why I bought them. Think we will have a visit from the vet soon just to be on the safe side.

Equisox worked brilliantly for my mare. She was very prone to pressure sores from bandages or even thermatex leg wraps but I used the Equisox on her for a number of years and never had a problem. They were great, and very effective. Quite expensive but lasted for ages if you look after them. Definitely get the ones with zips.

Hi I have been using premier equine stable wraps with or without liners when my horse has to stand in works a treat and are on offer at the moment I do try to keep him out as much as possible as legs are fine if on full turnout
