Just interested really?

my mums horse and my horse don't wear boots at all (including XC and hunting) but they are chunky responsible chaps. My dads is a fine TB, he hasn't worn any yet but he would probably have some on if he was doing any kind of serious XC (3 ft+?) and he would have them on for hunting..

Please tell?

Tia always has something on her front legs - she has a lump of bone from a scar and I ain't risking that taking a knock! She wears overreaches for jumping as she has an old o/r injury. I bought myself a bit of a bumpy horse

Tara wears boots all round for x country, because she is very thin skinned and had an accident when she scraped her skin off her back legs jumping a novice trakhena, which knocked her confidence.

Couldn't imagine taking a horse hunting or XC without personally, but that's just my opinion....

Pony used to wear them only for XC, hunting and fun rides - Thorowgood Conform ones all round.

The new girl has a front pair of brushing boots for jumping that she has to wear, and a new pair of back brushing boots i've just bought because she's a bit close behind and I don't want her whacking herself. She will wear them all the time.

Use knee boots when hacking on roads, having hacked with a friends horse that fell on its knees i do it as a precaution.
Nothing when schooling or popping jumps in the school at home.
Open fronted tendon boots and fetlock boots when out jumping ( or for working in dressage ) at shows, as she has a tendancy to get a bit excited and being a slightly over protective mother i worry she might catch herself.
Hunting and x country i use clarendon boots purely cause i like to use something and normal brushing boots or neoprene lined boots rub her.
Never use over reach boots as she never over reaches.

Touchy only has overreach boots for fast work or jumping, Sov has overeach and tendon boots or bandages for jumping. Touchy does overreach and Sov has a fabulous sacr on the inside of his pastern from racing which he has reopened when jumping with out really snug overeach boots (the fabric not rubber ones)

I use brushing boots on the young horses until they get their legs sorted out! But don't use them for hunting - I've had more problems with grit etc getting trapped under boots and causing sores than problems that could've been prevented by using boots.

Thats why I don't use boots at any point on our hunting horses, i'm sure if they can get around trappy wall country with non on they can manage the rest of there lives!

They have a good amount of bone though, I'm more worried about my dad's tiny TB, but I don't see what protection brushing boots do??? If I put any boots on they would be decent ones.

Bear wears tendon boots for SJ and XC cos if he didnt he wouldn't have legs left!!! he's only a baby so im hoping he'l improve on picking his legs up.

I'm confused!! How will tendon boots help him if he doesn't pick his legs up?? (i.e. hits the fence)?????

My horses wear boots if they need them. Tendon boots and over reach for jumping. Knee boots for hacking if needed.

I do tend to use brushing boots when schooling or lungeing just for protection, particularly in lateral work, but hacking only if needed.

Both mine wear brushing boots when out on the roads, hacking ( doesn't apply to mcfly though sadly yet) or if in the paddock being ridden or lunged.
I have finally got some tendon boots large enough for the big lad though and have some for the cob too so they will be wearing them on the fronts and brushing on the back.
When I got the big lad he came with a set of 4 brushing boots as he had been hunting etc
Mine just wear them really for protection but in the case of the big lad for support because sometimes I worry about his legs due to his age and size ( even though big boned). I just think the more I take care of him now as he approaches veteran status it may, may just help to prevent a few problems later on.
I am thinking about the knee boots as well though because he can be clumsy and trip ( so can Mcfly sometimes too) but I need to see if I have knee boots big enough though lol.
I have noticed that Mcfly can sometimes nearly overreach in flatwork when he extends his trot so I may try him in some overreach boots when he starts doing more fast work again soon as a precaution really. But if I did jumping with any of them in the future I would be inclined to use overreach boots for protection.

My hunter never wears any for anything, the tb wears hind brushing boots for schooling because she can brush behind on a circle if she loses concentration. She probably should wear them for jumping because she has wimpy tb legs but doesn't and I think boots hunting do more damage than they prevent.

My boy tends to have back and front boots for schooling jumping and hacking - he's a clumsy bugger and I don't see the point risking it!

He doesn't wear them in the field though.....don't see how a pair of brushing boots will save your horse getting a crack in the leg from another horse.....?

Binky wears Brushing boots allround whenever she is jumping, I would like some with a little more protction like some event boot though. She doesn't seem to brush but can have little fits and through herself around and sometimes will strike in to herself. Once I know that she is going to behave herself then the boots will come off for hunting as they cause more problems than they solve generaly. (that day may never come though!)

My pony wears brushing boots in front for jumping, xc, as a just in case measure.

My horse has tendon boots in front, because she had a suspected bruised tendon last year, and brushing boots on hinds, becasue she is a bit unbalanced still and tends to fling herself about with no care for my vets bill. She wears overreach boots all the time, field and hacking, so that she doesn't rip off her front shoes every other week. As she has back shoes off at the moment I also ride her out in Cavello boots to protect her hooves from chipping.

She wears all of these boots as a preventative measure every time I ride. Better safe than £1000 down due to unforeseen vets bills, is my current policy.

Mac has brushing boots on as he has crap legs and does brush. Don't do a lot with him other than hacking as he suffers from arthritis, although he has done a couple of sponsored rides this year.

Dolly doesn't wear any boots at all as she just doesn't need them.

Unfortunately my boy has to wear boots whenever he is ridden! He is very close and it was mentioned in the vetting so the insurance company decided to put a 3x excess if the claim was due to brushing....nasty people!!
As you can imagine I go through back boots at a rate of knots, have to buy new ones every 3 months or so?
I don't put them on in the field, his poor skin needs a rest! But he does wear over reach boots in the field to save his shoes during 'play time'!!
so, school work = brushing boots
sj = tendon and fetlock boots
xc = New wear airflow xc boots!!

Henry wears Clarendons for xc jumping, I don't bother booting him up for other work (unless the ground is hard and I want to school, in which case he wears support tights LOL!). He knocked a wall out hunting a few years ago and has a hard lump on his cannon bone as a result, so I make sure he always wear boots jumping.

Ryu wears, professionals choice boots on his fronts for schooling and hacking, for lunging he has the longer ones on the back, these boots are light and fit very well like a second skin. For hacking he has hi-viz brushing boots on the back.
For Jumping he has veredus tendon boots, the odd times we've been xc schooling hes had brushing boots on the back.

Bails wheres veredus tendon boots and woof brushing boots on the back for everything.
