How do you know what boots your horse needs and why? Thanks

Start with the ‘why’ question. Why do you want or need boots? The reason will dictate the type of boot. Then look at fit, protection, price etc.

Agree. Not all horses do need boots. My number one thing with boots though is that they MUST be breathable. I can never understand it when I see people riding in these fleece lined boots and old fashioned clarendon boots - tendons and heat is a recipe for disaster.

If they kick themselves when they move, look for boots to protect the area they kick, especially if they are shod.

If you are jumping solid fences, you might want XC boots to gve some protection to the front of the cannons.

Otherwise, don't boot just for the sake of it/fashion/just because everyone else does.

I tend to use Premier Equine airflow boots as I love the look of them and they're proven to reduce heat over tendons which is really important.

First you need to think if and why the horse might need boots.
Conformation (ie close infront might require brushing boots)
Are you noticing injuries? (over reach etc)

Boots protect from knocks but they can overheat the legs, so the type of material is also worth considering.

R, welcome to the forum. You haven't done an Introduction post as the site requests. Could you do one so we can all understand where this sudden flurry of very short and unexplained questions you've been posting are coming from?

I would answer you differently if I thought you were a novice new owner than if you were, for example, a student trying to using forum to shortcut doing research for course work.

I like the softer neoprene ones which prevent sweat and are flexible

If I was jumping Orbi , Id put boots on, Id also out boots on if we went hacking for hours.

I’m a BIG fan of the Tri-zone boots from Equilibrium. They’re very breathable and lightweight

Neoprene is an insulator and not very breathable which makes it a poor choice for boot construction if you want to 'prevent sweat'. It will heat the leg. Hence why it's a great choice for wetsuits!

I would only boot up for fast work. Just brushing boots. The horse moved well, so I didn't feel the need for them otherwise.
