Thought I'd sneak in here to give a report as havent ventured onto HHO while ive been revising for exams as know its a recipe for disaster!
Anyway was entered for Novice but spent the beginning of this week feeling grotty with a rubbish cold and didnt get the SJ practice in i wanted so decided to downgrade. Sun out and shining and Borde Hill looked just the perfect place for an event today
Absolutely loved the look of their revamped XC, their hard work has definitely paid off and i really liked the new layout
First off dressage - was trying her out in just a cavesson nose band instead of grakle to see if she resisted me less, and it must have worked as although *to me* the test felt rubbish, the judge was clearly looking in the opposite direction and we got a 28.5 - cue massive grin as i cantered into the first SJing fence as i heard them announce it over the tannoy!
She SJ the best she's jumped in a very long time - bounding along giving everything miles to spare!! felt really lovely and i felt she really deserved the clear round
Finally the XC which i knew full well she *should* be fine round but also knew having schooled at Brightling on tuesday and had trouble at a drop fence identical to the one at fence 7, she might well give me a difficult ride
Set out well over 1, 2 and 3, got a rubbish shot to the double at 4ab but she got me out of trouble. Rolled on down the hill and up the other side and over 5, popped 6 curving away from the warm up ring where i thought she may nap, and then down towards the roll top to step down - she climbed the roll top appallingly and she very nearly unseated me, she then took a moments hesitation at the drop where upon i thought "dont you dare do this to me you old goat" dug my heels in and walloped her - cue madam going "oh god i think she means it" and slithering down the drop very inelegantly and galloping away!
She then gave me a really lovely ride all the way home pretty much, to finish clear with 4.0 time - which was a shame but i prefered that then having 20pens
Turns out we finished in 3rd place
on same score as 2nd place and without the time pens we would have won
so really chuffed with her but glad we downgraded as she needed a confident XC round
So a pretty good day with the sun shining down on us which was lovely
Ice creams all round!! (they did very good ones at borde hill!
