Just looking for some thoughts on this really, and whether people would recommend and any comments on the event/course as a whole. Looking for a 90 to do in August accessible from down South (Winchester/Southampton) and there is very little BE but Borde Hill might be an option.... advice gratefully received! Thanks x

it's lovely, was there at the weekend. beautifully built track, of what I looked at for the 90 there was one or 2 semi hard questions (one being two hedges on a slight downhill on an angle that rode a bit trickier than they walked) but it's so nicely built and the ground is so good that you're bound to have a good time :)

Thanks. Anyone know where there may be course photos... new horse and having few teething probs so don't want to over face but be lovely to have a fun run!

here are my pics from my report on the BE90 event on 29th May - course is likely to stay roughly the same I would have thought.

It was not the easiest I have tackled this year - 2 full up 1m10 hedges on an angle with somewhere between 1 and 2 strides between was the hardest (you are allowed 90cm of solid fence and 20cm brush on top!) and there were a couple of combinations with 90degree turns between part a and b and a couple of spreads at maximum height/width with brush on top. I'd call it a bold course and it caused carnage compared to a lot of XC courses. However it rides well if you ride it positively.

Thanks Star - at least if it is unaff the pressure won't be so great as record etc... could be a good one to go and try our best but not stress about. Sounds quite brutal tho to be honest!

Hello, I was thinking about doing the unafil 80 course! I have never done a BE Before but thought it would be a good idea on doing some unafil horse trials first, i will defo be doing twesldown 3rd/4th sept but i have never ever seen borde hill before and would like to know terrain, fences at the 80 height? As an unexperienced teen do you think it would be straight forward nice first timer!! Thank you and hope to see you there!! :D:D:D:D

My daughter did the unaffiliated 80 course at Borde Hill last year on her 14hh pony - very straightforward, inviting course. A couple of photos:

Thank You Very Much for those photos! Are you going this year! If you are i hope to see you there :p :D

I'm in the 90 too, and I'm terrified of those hedges! Combinations are our achilles heel as my boy drifts out the left shoulder and sometimes only notices the jump once we've gone sailing straight past it! All pilot error, once he's locked on, he's fab!

But at least it won't go on the boy's record when/if I screw up! I'm staying unaffiliated for a while until I learn to stop eventing like a muppet!

Awh Im doing the 80, but are you sure the hedges will be in the 90, i know they are in the be90 but this is an unaffiliated event? :D

it might be unaffiliated but those hedges measure full up 90cm plus 20cm brush on top - there's no way they could put them in the 80! Plus they cause enough trouble in the 90 - they'd probably wipe out half the 80 field!

i know of course they wont be in the 80! xD but i was saying are you sure that they would be in the 90 because it is an unafil event! The hedges might be in the 1m and 1.10m maybe because of the difficulty!! :p:confused:

i think the course is likely to be fairly similar from previous yr's reports. having done the previous 2 in this unaffiliated series (Tweseldown/Mattingley) they were most definitely equivalent to BE90 courses.

PS - i was looking in entries and saw I sure your horse listed in entries for the Intro class which is the 90cm?

Oh Dear! What a numpty i feel right now, to enter the wrong class..... Great! Clever Me....Thank you for noticing that! saved me a lot of aggro!! Could Say your my Life saver!!! ;););););););)

i've never been to larkhill but i wouldn't say borde hill was hilly in the slightest. there's one little dip down and back up again and there's a bit of a climb after the water so i guess it's not flat like BCA but it's no more hilly than Tweseldown. ground was hard in May but they worked hard on it for the BE - no idea if they'll work as hard for unaffiliated.
