Has anyone got one on here?
I'm looking into getting a young border collie, ideally a pup but would take a rescue. I have recently moved into my own house and its ever so lonely not having a dog.
When i lived with my parents we had all sorts of dogs including two collies who i thought were the best! Very lively and always a joy to be with.
I lead quite an active life so it would get plenty of walks etc and come to the yard with me every day including going to dog agility classes as that would probably provide them with something stimulating to use their brain a bit.
We have a house near the beach and normally go on holiday once a month there; all the family go and two other family dogs. Do you think that by the sounds of my routine etc that a breeder or rescue centre would let me have one, as i have heard that sometimes they can be difficult in regards to who their dogs go to.?

The main thing that concerns most breeders and rescue centres is how long the dog will be left during the day, although of course with a collie as you rightly say there is the question of keeping their brains active too. I can only suggest you contact them directly and ask if they would consider you. Don't just look at rehoming criteria on their websites, as I think they are often prepared to be flexible about this if they feel it is the right home.

hello - i have 6 :) id advise you get onto agilitynet.com there is a forum on there as well and you will get a wealth of advice. they will also help you with finding a local club etc.

tbh, gut feeling is that a rescue isnt ideal for a first dog/first collie - although youve had them at home, this being the first time you have really 'gone it alone' if that makes sense. good luck!

Thanks very much for the advice, I do understand why you suggest a rescue not being the ideal first dog, at the family home we still have a GSDxHusky who was a rescue and at 6mths he had issues mainly about noises and strange people.
He always listened to me and dad because we were slightly more authoratative with him but he won't listen to mum.
I think perhaps a breeder may be the way to go beign a first dog and a first home etc. Thanks very much and I'll visit the website you suggested
