OK we have seen the GSDs now let's see the border collies :) GSDs are my first love but collies come a close second. I spent many idyllic summers on my grandparents farm in rural Ireland with their collies. It was down to this breed that I met my husband. I bought a collie pup with the idea of doing some kind of work with him. I bought him from a top sheepdog trialler, who persuaded me to bring him along to his weekly group training sessions. I then went along to the National Sheepdog Trials as a spectator, got talking to hubby and the rest is history!

All our collies are working sheepdogs and much of the beauty of the collie, for me, is to watch them working.

lovely dogs, i have always liked border collies and got the next best thing a 3/4 border collie who is a pet and has been an absolute delight. very quick to learn and very obedient. i now also have a terrier and really notice the difference , a little more challenging than my collie who is now nearly 12 in the sleeping pic.

Lovely dogs Splash. I can't imagine a less cooperative dog than a terrier :D I looked after my sister's Border a few years ago for three weeks and it made me realise that, as lovely as she is, I would never want one lol.

I am a big border collie fan, no longer own one myself sadly but really enjoying all these photos, what gorgeous dogs. OP your third picture down is just stunning.
 
Can’t remember my photo box log in currently!
We have a collie who we got just over a year ago. She was stupidly bought by a family who then didn’t walk her for 2 years. She put up with kids climbing all over her but was destructive and apparently still not house trained.
She has never chewed anything in our house (she did pinch food off the side to start with, but now knows she is only allowed once child has thrown it on the floor)
She can be a bit neurotic- takes a little while to settle anywhere new. But with clear direction and exercise she has flourished as a very active pet.she naturally follows the horses in the the field- the herding instinct is certainly there! She is desperate for everyone to love her and can be a bit in your face.

I didn’t really like collies before I got her! I had only known a friends pack who were a bit nippy and intense.

Working collies are superb to watch. Such concentration and desire to please.
 
ah lovely pics, WGSD I love yours with the black face. IVe been back through to gather some pics for this thread and it made me feel sad :( While we still have some wonderful dogs we have also lost some of the most amazing dogs too :(

He’s 12 now. Was 10 when we got him, so sadly missed out on his younger days. He really is a wonderful old man, just wish he would take it easy sometimes, as he regrets it in the evenings.

i have had terriers before so thought i had remembered how challenging they are, but i have been so spoilt with my collie cross it came as a bit of a shock. tell the collie once and she always remembers, tell the terrier 5 times and you may get a reaction on the last time of asking. i love my little boy though and he is slowly getting better, it just takes quite a bit longer....
 
Yay, this is my new favourite thread :)

I've always loved border collies but said I'd never have one due to the amount of exercise they need. Then I looked after the pup that became Woolfie, and discovered that what they need is stimulation and that can be mental as well as physical. I am now a total convert to the breed and as you all know, I'll be collecting my new puppy in 7 weeks and 3 days.

She sounds like she has landed on her feet with you :) We need to see photos! If you want to email me some I can post them for you.
 
Wonderful photos of your gorgeous collies NeverEver. Sorry it made you emotional. I felt the same looking through some of my old photos, it is just a shame they can't live as long as us.

My sisters- Mia :) Sorry she's in the background.... she's trained for obedience to a pretty high level and can do agility but mainly competes flyball and the odd canicross. She's my reserve cani-cross dog :p

I know! He just had first trip to the beach yesterday and prompted by this thread I just dug up some gorgeous photos of my old girl (brought me to tears looking through them) and I can’t post them. Not via Facebook anymore anyway.

I only have a mobile and for some reason it is sticking 2 fingers up to me when I try to do it the way I always have. If I get a spare half hour I’ll try one of these other photo sharing things. Unless I can email them to someone?
 
Oh wow ester, I love dotty dog. So beautiful.

This is just the best thread. Though I'm having to work really hard at remembering that I don't need another dog right now...
