My gorgeous Border Terrier, Baxter has just been diagnosed with Diabetes, he is 10 years 5 months. Wonder if anyone out there could give me some tips
on caring for a diabetic dog. I am injecting him twice a day with 6 units of insulin each time. 7am and 7pm with his food immediately before his jab. He is
very subdued and seems sad most of he day but I am wondering if I should change his food. At the moment he is on Harrington's chicken and veg dry food
with 2 inch piece of cucumber, 2 inch piece of carrot and 3 slices of cooked chicken. He woofs it down no problem but is this giving him the correct carbs,
fat etc he needs as a diabetic? He loves his walks, chasing balls and playing with toys but I am very nervous we could be over doing it!!

I have no experience of diabetic dogs but would expect your vet to advise on diet. If he enjoys being active I would encourage/allow that, I believe in quality of life over quantity. I hope you can work out what is best for him.

Hi! How are you doing?
Sorry for bumping this thread, but my dog has just been dignosed with diabetes. It would be great if you shared your further experience.
Thanks in advance.
