So we have a Leonberger, he's called Lordi who has had quite big surgery on his leg about 6/8 weeks ago. Operation went fine, had to stay in house for 3 weeks (and out in garden) without / running as little as possible. After this he was on 6 weeks of lead walks (only 10 mins at a time) .. we walk him 3 times a day and this does seem to be enough otherwise he becomes lame.

So he went back for his 8ish weeks xrays, they have shown that during the first 3 weeks the femur bone had cracked but is healing itself, so has been put on ANOTHER 6 weeks of lead walks.

I can't help to think that he must be bored out of his brains! what do you do for your dogs? He has his Teddys and bones etc but obviously walks are limited and we have to be careful what he does, any suggestions VERY greatfully reciever, Sorry i've gone on :P

oh id love to see a pic, i think my boy is x leonberger! iw onder if they look alike!

it sounds like you are doing all you can for him, im sure it must be so difficult for you :( i hope the next few weeks dont drag. xx

Training and games :)

Play hide and seek in the house, get him to identify articles (teddy, ball) teach him sit/stand/wait at a distance, that kind of thing - tidy up his heelwork while you get the chance as well maybe :)

hes adorable!!

i can see a likiness with my boy, body wise my boy looks identical!
wow i thought he did have a huge coat! lol i feel sorry for your hoover! lol

Lol, lets say cream carpets weren't the best idea!! Hence the purchase of a carpet cleaner that arrived yesterday!! Not the easiest of dogs to keep clean/looking nice 24/7!

LOL! That is his typical sleeping position, can't see myself how that would be comfortable in the slighest?! but it obviously is for him!

If he can manage it, what about trips in the car when possible? My dogs adore the car and though we have lots of land and they get plenty of walks, the car is the thing they enjoy more than anything - even their dinners. But being such a big lad perhaps he'd find it difficult to get in?

Before his operation, when he was lame and wasn't allowed to be walked, to see if the lameness still persisted he went for drives, problem is now, vet wants him to use a ramp from now on, haven't had any luck yet, and doesn't want him jumping up and down, i know he's been for a potter down the yard which really knackered him so i guess its a case of when he's having a good day to take him out!!

CAYLA - She's lovely!! does look like an old girl! Lordi usually goes to the groomers and has it all chopped off, looks like a puppy! but hasn't been able to go as it's standing for long times!

Alec - Thankyou! He knows it aswell!
