Our yard is split up into 4 stable blocks, on our block there is a palamino Sec D colt who is about 10 months old. The problem is his owners are not very good at handling him and he has been in his stable for the last 8 weeks so is now (literally!) climbing the walls through boredom.

When they handle him they just shout at him etc and I find it very unsettling (even when he is being good they do not change the tone of their voice, they are still being "shouty"). They say they cannot turn him out as he is worth too much (he is a very well bred show colt) but I personally do not agree with this.

This morning the owner had a huge hissy fit because he wanted to play with him (typical bargy and bitey colt!) and I do not agree that we should have to listen to the tantrums and constant shouting.

Do you think I should speak to the YO or just wind my neck in and ignore it until my friends yard is ready (this is all the tip of the iceberg with these particular owners, their 'best buddy' and their instructor!)
xx

I think you should speak to the YO and voice your concerns. Whilst you are a livery you have a right to be happy and also the welfare of this young horse is also important. So speak up!

I heard them mumbling something about maybe sending him to the breeder on Saturday for a couple of weeks to prepare for a show so should I leave it and see if he goes or not?

One of the problems is he also runs around the stable kicking the walls, my horse isnt bothered by this but he is in every other day because of his mud fever and Im worried that this annoys him as I think it is more or less constant!

Thanks for advice!

Well basically it should be in the field - enjoying life.

But hey ho.............

You have to wonder about some people don't you?

I'd voice my concerns, this colt needs to get out so he grow in personality! What a life for the poor boy! We used to have Welshies of show quality and they were all allowed to play out in the field!

Im glad everyone has said that. People on my yard seem to like keeping their horses in because it is cold and raining (and one girl who has now left because she didnt like brushing hers!) But I always say they are water proof and have rugs on so whats the problem lol!

for me personally (if it was me) i wouldnt get involved as long as it was well fed watered i would keep my nose out i suppose everyone has there own ways though not what i would do with mine its a hard one?isnt there a school if worst way out he can stretch his legs? my only concern would be if they carry on(i assume hes being hard feed)? he will do himself more a injury being in than out if hes kicking the walls now as a owner id be worried

The YO took the door off the indoor school because it was about to fall off. Hes ex husband and son (long story about that!) are totally useless at doing the jobs they are meant to, it takes about 3 weeks. I just feel sooooo sorry for him, it is not natural!

It is the shouting at him that I dont like, I dont think we should have to be subjected to that!
