Well as i said in my last post about math slipping in the box and pulling up lame we got the vet on tuesday as he seemed worse. However monday night he trotted up sound =/.
So vet came out and we trotted him up she said there was stiffness in his back legs when he turned and he seemed slightly lame so she did a clench test ? if iv got that correct and she couldnt find any problem so trotted him up again and ths time we had a headbob not massive but was noticeable(sp) then she did a flexion test and made no diffrence so shes concluded he is clearly lame but not so much as shes worried his pulled somthing and the stiffness is nothing to worry about however she advised to keep him on a weeks box rest and bute and have a big bed then on tues trot him up if hes better he can go into a small paddock and work from there if not she will come out again and do more tests.

Today was day one boxrest
Well he was abit stupid and was rushing around his stable (thankfully its pretty spacey) when there horses went out and after a while he calmed down so i mucked him out with his help of hitting me with the plastic brush and then knocking the wheelbarrow over he then decided to wee on his bed and dig it up
he was fine watching everyone come and go but during the afternoon most people arnt down so he was getting bored anyone know of anything i can do to entertain him .. he was groomed 4 times today to the point he took the brush out of my hand :| he has another horse he can see and chat to whos also on box rest with lami.going to buy him a lick tommorrow and he can have his treat ball back aslong as he doesnt wack it against the wall again =/ poor horsey

Make sure it's not a sugar lick like 'little likits' or whatever theyre called. Might send him even more loopy and they tend to last about 5 minutes anyway. The filly on boxrest at my yard loves her rock salt lick and it's much better for them than sugary ones.

Can you leave a radio on? Ours seem to like that.

And does he always have food? You could double or tripple net his hay/ haylage to keep him occupied longer.

Could string up some veg like swedes but make sure he can't pin them against the wall else they will last about 30 seconds!

a football? Some horses ignore them, but some like to paw at them and pick them up etc.

Aww thanks for the ideas were gonna get him the licky licks ? there seeds and things in a pink wapper and yeah always has hay and in 2haynets with apples and things in.he does like the radio .. radio 1 to be exact haha. And i forgot about hanging fruit and veg up haha i used to do it all the time :L
thank you heres hoping one less bored horse

My friend takes the middle out of a swede and hangs it up for the horse to try and bite. I buy swedes and put them on the floor but Saffy can eat one in about 2 mins!!

I use a long screwdriver to bore a hole through it, push the string through with it too and then tie a big knot at the end. Ours seemed too lazy to bother if they couldn't pin it against the wall though. I hung them from the field fences when they were out all winter and they didn't bother. A few days later i pulled them down and just chucked them in the field shelter and they were gone by the end of the day. Lazy beasts.
