My new horse is used to living out, but I have been stabling him at night (force of habit) and have noticed that he has been weaving a little when he's without hay in the stable. Somebody has suggested using a stable toy, but paying 30 pounds for something that he's very likely to break isn't too appealing to me. I've heard of giving them root vegetables like swede etc. Should I tie it up/put it on the floor/cut it up?
Any advice greatly appreciated :)

I don't think he'd break a decahedron stable toy, my shire x has got one and he's not killed it yet! He adores it and it keeps him occupied for ages xx

Mine has a decahedron and has wellied it off the walls for a year now with no damage.

You can give them swedes to eat/play with, hide carrots in their haynets, you can also get horse balls and likits. If he's eating it quick a smaller or double netted haynet will slow him down a bit too :) I tried filling a bucket of water and putting apples in the top (apple bobbing for horses) but my Boy got bored of it and ignored it - might be worth a try too :)

I give my boy a sweed with string through tied to the bar accros the front of his stable he loves it-although he gets fustrated with it, he also has a ball tied up which i put slices of apple, sweed & carrot through.
My mare is terrible when in the stable but petrified of the ball so I'm going to invest in one of the decahedron stable toys :)
