Anyone have any ideas for stopping a destructive little horse from being too bored in his stable at night? I bought one of those 'equine decahedrons', that are like snackaballs, but he squished it, and then poo-ed into it

He has a linseed lick thingy, but I don't leave it in at night because I'm not sure how good it is for him.

So any ideas very welcome! We have LOADS of vegetables, so anything we can do with them?

A stable mirror?
Also, how about the usual of hanging a rope from the ceiling and threading it through a vegetable, Can be quite time consuming to eat .
How about hiding the veggies in his bed for him to find?

I had a horseball, which was okay, and a snakball which was excellent, stronger and harder to get the food out than the decohedrons. And what about hanging a turnip or ball thing in the middle of his stable to bat around, at least he couldn't poo on it up there right?

Stable mirror worked for me but some one e mailed me through ebay to say their horse broke his and cut himself badly .I have mine up on a flat wall quite high and it has been great but my other horse hated his and I took it out. They are all different. I also leave the radio on

Define boredom? Banging at the door, not settling? Agitated when you come to him in morning. Or just completely dislikes going in there?

Other ideas above a good - try them

I brought a distraction ball for my little Appaloosa filly when I first had her the poor thing had to spend long hours in the stable. Its like a football and hangs at horses head height in the stable. It has laces fixed to the ball so you can put goodies in them. The ball cost£25 and was an excellent boredom breaker, she loved it. Much prefers her 24 hour turnout now though.

Leave him out if you can. I have been doing this with my two idiots since the start of this hot, dry weather and they have never been happier. Still sreaming for their breakfast though....

Yeah, I think I'll try the swede!

I'll need to borrow a ladder off someone though, because our lot are in a barn

I'm going to hide some carrots in his bed, and some in his haynet, we've got LOADS of veg at the moment, because our greengrocers give us all the old stuff for free, hence about two tonnes of carrots, swedes and turnips

Where do you get stable mirrors from?

And his boredom is banging around, wrecking stuff, poking his nose through any gaps he can and getting stuck, he HATES going in his stable, hates the sight of it! When we fetch him in the morning, you open the door and he's out like a shot! xD Silly boy! I want to leave him out at night, but apparently we're not allowed til the end of June ;_;

surely stable mirrors should be made of highly polished steel, i thought they were...

try hiding carrots in his haynet, i do that for mine, its like a little pressie for him every time he finds one

try getting a stall guard for his door so he doesnt feel locked in, i dont shut my horses door at all even at night, i clip a lead rope across his doorway and thats it, he doesnt even lean on it

talking about boredom though, im sooo bored now i havent got the horses to muck out etc. as theyre in the field, im still waking up at 6.00 thinking i need to feed them
