I am just wondering who everyone insures with? i am looking to take a horse on Loan and obviously need insurance! mum said that we used to be with NFU when i had horses previously but that was about 7 years ago and i will be funding this myself now.
Also i have a query! most i have seen offer no cover for the 1st 14 days- is this the norm?
Not really worried about loss of use or anything but need to be insured against death or the horse, vet and dental fees etc!
Thanks,

ONly way you will avoid the 14 day problem is to insure with same company as the horse is currently insured with. This is what we did with pony daughter had on loan briefly and managed to get continuous cover as health history known by insurers

Petplan.

the 14 day thing is a pain, but if the horse is already insured by its owner, make sure you overlap for 2 weeks

I am with KBIS very good as had to make a claim within the first three months of owning my cob, before when I owned my TB was with Petplan OK too paid out £££££££££'s on her.....if I remember I had my cover on both from when I went to collect them.....if that's any help.....NFU is very good and came out ranked top for insurance in a survey I heard about.

i use nfu. they insure against accidents for the first 14 days just not illness.
i had a pony and within one hour of owning him he was kicked in the field(YO put him out ) nfu paid all vet bills x rays etc. they are very good

Brilliant! we were with NFU before so i will give them a ring!
Just need to find a horse first

I just want a idea of how much insurance etc is going to cost me?
What do you pay? i was thinking around £15-20 per month not sure if i am way off though?

Petplan do the same and have always been really quick at settling claims, the last one I got a cheque within two weeks.

I am dealing with a claim through NFU for the death of a horse AND rider after being hit by a car. They have been professional throughout this horrible lengthy process and paid out for the horse immediatley. They also give you legal aid which without this i dont know what we would have done. I would recommened them and use them for my own horse.
With regards to how much it will cost a month it depends on how much you pay for the horse, its age and what you want to use it for. Just as an example i pay £28 month for eleven month old colt that i obvioulsy cant ride but am covered for showing and all the others etc vets bills, third party, personal accident. Some companies may provide cheaper quotes but compare the companies by what they provide not the price.

I'm about to change to Petplan for my two. I'm currently with E&L (aahhggg!!!!!!), and have been waiting 3 months now for a cheque to settle a claim I made. They have agreed settlement, but are sitting on the cheque. I'm now getting stroppy letters from my vet about the outstanding bill and I could really do without the stress at the moment.

I'd recommend anyone except E&L!!

I use PetPlan and have found them good to deal with.It would depend on value of horse you get on loan and wether you want LOU as well.Must admit I alway made sure I got lou on any ponies I loaned would depend on what owner wanted I suppose.I have one insured for 2500 and pay between 30-35 per month for vet fees etc but no loss of use, daughter horse is insured for 5000 costs 65 per month with lou.Did get quote from nfu but it was only a couple of pounds cheaper.

Thanks everyone-depending on the value of the horse i loan of course but i dont really thing LOU will be required as i am only planning to compete for fun really but would like to aff s/j!! if possible!
Not sure if i should ring round and get quotes now or wait untill i actually find a horse! really excited and just want to get moving !

I use stoneways and they are the best Ive ever had!
My horse is worth a small fortune and they gave me the best quote, he is insured for absolutly EVERYTHING! And I pay alot more a month for him than I do my car!
I also had to make a claim earlier in the year and they were fab, no hassle or anything, they took care of it all. Cant recommend enough.
