Hi All, what horse insurer do you recommend? Not bothered aboout price (you tend to get what you pay for!) but which is the best for customer service, dealing with claims? I've never insured a horse before and need to now.
Also, is the sum insured the current market value they estimate? Is it a good idea to ask them what they think the sum insured should be? I wouldnt want to pay premiums for example for a SI of £4000 only for them to decide the horse is worth half that.

I use NFU mutual ( i think thats what its called) for my pony and trailer and they are really good, helpfull etc... not bad priced either

Hi I have used NFU for over 10years, they are ok, to be honest they have not been as efficient as they used to be (returning phone calls and general office stuff) but they have always paid out on any vet bill claims. They were very good when horse box broke down, they managed to get horse, dogs, child ect all home quickly and kept checking that we were ok.I would go for a well known company, and incidently a lot of companys need a full vet certificate if the horse is over a certain value (usually £5000) hope this helps.

Stoneways have been absolutely fabulous for me so far. I haven't finished the claim yet but they've shelled out £1000 without batting an eyelid, they don't even particularly ask questions just say 'send us the bills and we'll pay them' and then they actually do. Really quickly. Big thumbs up from me :)

I was with amtrust. They're friendly and answer the phone promptly but refused to pay out for a claim citing that the 'accident' occurred prior to the policy. The 'accident' was only discovered after 3 vet trips so couldn't have been that obvious. Grr. Makes me think twice about insurance now. Won't use them again unless they change their minds after I've appealed their decision - too many loopholes.

KBIS have been fabulous for me and have paid out very quickly indeed. The premiums are very reasonable too.

I had a horse insured with Stoneways once and they were absolutely useless. Now I'm not saying they're like that for everyone, but I certainly couldn't recommend them.
