On Saturday, I took Spyder, a 15.2 Welsh x Hannoverian that I have just got in to sell, to Bromyard to do the Elementary freestyle.

I have to say it was slightly embarrasing at first to be trotting around the warmup doing pony club kicks trying to whizz up what looked like a scary thellwell pony!

The class was particularly hot, I was the lowest grade rider, and the other horses where in comparison beautiful, leggy and elegant. I have to say I felt like most of the other riders where looking slightly down their noses at me, which I suppose couldnt be helped given they where all on 17hh warmbloods!!

Anyway I was first in, and although I did need to use a few pony club kicks in the arena to keep Spyder motivated, he did a lovely test (thanks to AP for putting together FAB music which included the final countdown and the ski sunday music).

I was very surprised to see that we actually came 2nd in the class with 72.91%!!

I was chuffed to bits as the horse that won was 2nd at the Winter championships last year, and it was Spyders best ever score!

I will never look down my nose at cobs again!!

Are you now a converted dressage diva snob? You naughty boy! Spyder sounds nice, have you got any pics? Well done on coming 2nd, does that mean you have qualified for anything?

Brilliant

*mentions nothing about the comment concerning cobs, Mr D would be devestated!*

Ah now, I made the very same mistake on Sunday at the venue I was at.

I met this rider at the AF in August and they were riding a very impressive WB at the time. I recognised them immediately on Sunday, but instead of the WB I had seen before they got a hogged cob out of the box which looked anything but a dressage horse.

I went off, did my test, unplaited etc etc so by the time I went to collect my sheets this horse and rider were just about to start their medium test and I was absolutely blown away by it... It just did not look like the same horse, and what a movement!!! Never again will I stereotype a dressage horse, as that horse (well, it was more like a pony as only looked around 15hh) just proved to me that there is no 'type' in dressage

Well done for your results too... your music sounds fantastic

Well done, thats a brilliant result! Do you have any piccies? I need to get my backside in gear and do some music but its hard for me to practice as our arena at home is too short so i have to hire somewhere out to practice in

oh wow thats fantastic !! I must say my friends cob did very well and trained to a good level to - people ised to look down their noses at her untill she beat them !!! xx

Well done!

Just goes to show that it's not what you've got, it's what you do with it!!!

There was a photo of Laura Fry in last week's H&H doing well with a Highland so you're in good company.
I would also timagine that a Welsh x Hanno could be a very good cross, as long as you got the best of both breeds not the worst!!!

Well done, why was it in the elementary has it got points or have you qualified so many for the novice it is becoming embarrassing, lol.
We had to laugh when C forgot her boots and didn't plait and looked like a blob on a horse and everyone was really smart and she won both tests.Judges aren't always stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had OJH film the test but the cd is bust!!

I did the elem as he has been competing at Elem/ Med with his old rider. I am taking him back a bit to polish what he already knows to get his scores a bit higher
