I was thinking about what I'd do and came to the conclusion I'd rather move mine than have the worry about what will happen if the wind changes, especially with the road closures. It is genuinely absolutely bloody terrifying. There have been some wonderful offers from all sorts of people.
So far we haven't needed to take up the offers, though that may change. We are at the mercy of the wind direction. We are no more than 2 miles in a straight line from the flames, but luckily, for us at least, the smoke from this latest flare up has blown mostly away from us. The earlier flare up was further away, but we did get significant smoke from that one. I managed to keep the horses out of the worst that time. I had been considering asking advice on herbs/suppements to help their lungs recover. Right now I am just hoping we get a months rain in a day. I fluctuate between refusing to think about it to catastrophising about every possible worst case scenario. Their field is between our horse and the flames.... if it changes direction at niight, will I know in time? Villages east of us are apparently being evacuated. Will we get enough warning?
And of course my lorry has gone in for servicing, after months of chasing the mechanic! At least they are good at ride and lead!
And now we have no water in the house or sheds. Don't know if it's linked.
