Borrowing clippers? *opinions* (also in CR's)

Would you be happy to hire/let someone borrow your clippers?!

I don't know whether it would be considered rude/cheeky of me to ask my friend whether I can hire her clippers off her?!

She hasn't clipped any of her horses this year and I just want to run over my boy with a full clip and only own dog clippers myself (for trimming) and want to get him done ASAP and capable/happy doing him myself (quite enjoy clipping haha) and he's not particularly hairy

do you think it's a bit cheeky of me if I ask if I can borrow (although I will offer to pay her) her clippers :S

if it's not a crime and none of you are appalled by me even thinking of it how much do you think I should offer her?!

I just don't know whether it's a reasonable question/offer or whether it's a bit rude :S

I lend mine out all the time, on the understanding that if they get broken, they will have to be repaired or replaced. I also get a few quid to sharpen the blades.
 
personally i wouldnt unless it was someone i really trusted and obv if they were broken then they pay damage costs / new set.
and give money towards sharperning
so say £15-20??
 
My yard charges £25 for a full clip and lend me theirs for £10 to help cover the maintenance. I would suggest agreeing that if you physically break them by dropping them etc you would offer to reimburse but if they break down through no fault of your own then perhaps not.

Also I am presuming you know how to use clippers properly? i.e oiling them regularly and not letting the oil get in the motor? (If so then I don't think it's cheeky at all, if not perhaps you could offer to pay them to clip your horse instead, then it's their problem?)
 
no i would never lend my clippers to anyone. and i would never borrow a set either. but i would clip any horse, as this is my main winter job. fully insured, machines pat tested and serviced and certified. no i would never lend them. sorry.
 
Thank you for the replies, yes I have clipped many arabs for the show ring ect just don't have my own (done it at work ect)

Its a tough one, I'm thinking I may just ring up the local clipping woman and see how soon she can come out, as I'm not feeling asking if I can borrow even though I'm pretty much sure she would, I still feel a little cheeky!!!

The other thing is she has never clipped, she has had these clippers and year or so and have never clipped in her life, nor had any of her horses clipped :S so I would feel a little rude asking to borrow new clippers :S

I just don't think I can bring myself to asking to borrow them :/

Personally i would never borrow any body clippers.

As i once asked a new freind weather i could borrow hers, she said yes adiment that they had just been serviced and kept saying it all through our convo.

OH thought she was abit strange and said dont bother..but as normal ignored him :/
soo... borrowed these clippers next day opened the box... they had 4 teeth missing!
Switched them on.
1 line up the neck on a very light haired tb... they stopped working :?
so i took them into the sadderlers asked them to look at them..
Mean while the sadderlers spoke to the (freind) of mine.. and asked about the teeth missing in the blades she denyed this and said they were in perfect order before they went to me.

So it ment that i had to pay for a service + extra to fix it + blades. They were a very old set so decided instead of paying 70+ to get them sorted and worst case they dont work i would have to them pay exta for a new set. so decided just to get her a new set. which she replied on a text ''thanks''
 
My friend lent me her clippers this winter - I got my mare in October and was asking her advice on clippers and she just offered to lend me hers as she wasn't going to clip her youngster so didn't need them, and thought it would give me time to get some cash together to buy my own. Very kind of her - only clipped her twice with them and didn't 'pay' for them as such, but got both sets of clipper blades sharpened before I returned them to her.
 
I don't have my own clippers yet, but will get some this year. I wouldn't loan mine out and I wouldn't ask to borow someone else's. What I did do was ask one of the girls on the yard if they would clip my horse with their cliipers and I would help. He is a big horse and was getting a bit bored towards the end, so I took the clippers off her and got him finished.

She got £20 and I got a clipped horse. Both happy!
 
I wouldnt lend mine but then thats only as they cost over £200 and if they got broke its just a whole heap of hassle I could well do without. I would however clip someones horse for them and i dont usually charge - sometimes i get treats given to me for horse sometimes people give me money for blade shrarpening but i never ask for money - i dont mind doing it really.
 
I lent mine last year and they came back with a huge apology and a broken set of blades. Apparently the horse had kicked out and the clippers had been dropped. Lucky it was just a couple of teeth on the blades that broke. I wouldn't risk lending them again, frankly.
 
Lent mine out and came back with a burnt out motor!! Cost more to repair so ended up buying a new set of ebay - not a happy bunny so would never lend them out again!

Could you ask your friend to clip your horse for you and offer to pay her/get the blades re-sharpened afterwards? She/he may then offer to lend you them instead which would save you asking outright!?
