What's this all about!
Ive not looked a lot into it and so maybe shouldn't be commenting but it strikes me as a really odd idea. My facebook page just showed me pictures of new add's to the dog(gy!) list most of which were young puppies.
I can see maybe the dog owner who works a lot might find a "borrower" handy to walk and give company but why buy a puppy if you don't have time and are willing to farm it off on strangers (lets face it they could be anyone!)

Is this something anyone's done? If so why and did it work for you?

We met someone in the pub recently who had hired a dog from someone in London to visit the countryside with!!
 
Mine is with me 95% of the time but I thought it could be a useful thing for some people when I first heard about it.
Having looked at it, I don't like it.

Any one can become a borrower, just by joining. Its up to the lender to decide if they are happy with that person, that's fair enough providing the lender fully understands these borrowers are not checked in any way.
I recognised a few of the borrowers as people from our small town, and some really were very unsuitable to be responsible for a dog. Many were very young.

Not something I'd ever use or suggest to anyone else.
 
I was a member up until a few days ago. I had some spare time and thought it would be nice to help someone & their dog out.

I found two lovely Staffies to walk and did so for a little while.

It's £7 to become a member for the year from what I can remember. I think it's a good idea to be honest. I don't see it as any different to putting up a "Dog walker wanted" ad, and if anything it's better because you can check each other out first.
 
I think its a good idea as long as people check out the borrowers sufficiently. I found the website a while ago when I was checking to see if anyone locally needed help walking their dog.

My dog sadly passed away earlier this year and because of work etc its not a good time for me to get another one at the moment. I love walking in the countryside and really miss being around dogs so I thought this might be an option. As it turned out there was no-one local enough to me so it didn't work out.

I've had dogs and horses all my life and I'm a responsible and confident dog person. If the lender needed references or evidence of this I would be perfectly happy to provide it, in fact I would be glad they asked.

I think its nice when people can get together to help look after their animals and although it doesn't seem like it a lot of the time, most people who seek out things like this are trustworthy and honest. We just get to hear more about when things go horribly wrong which understandably makes some people feel wary of strangers.

Its more if your the one with the dog, rather than the one wanting the dog :)
