Wondered if anyone could help suggest someone in the south west (Gloucestershire) that I can send my pony to... He's always been difficult to handle, barging, dragging me off, but this year he's starting kicking too, which is not fun... Was wondering if anyone knows anywhere, that would take him on to learn some manners, as I'm not confident and strong enough to do so.... He's incredibly rude and disrespectful and I'm worried becoming dangerous.... So would like him to be taken down a peg or two as it were, by any means necessary! Thanks

Firstly, well done you! for facing the fact that this lout has got the upper hoof and that you need help. This is never an easy thing to admit. With other peoples horses I am fairly rational ,but my own Bob the nota cob merely blinks his eyes at me and I am putty in his (or more frequently underhis)hooves. It is not just a question of your boy learning manners ,because he will return and in 6 months ,have forgotten everything. You also have to go to "boot camp" and learn how to handle him.You say that you are not confident or strong enough. Firstly , NONE OF US ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO OVERPOWER A HORSE . You are as strong as the rest of us but havnt yet learned the right tricks. As for confidence, knowlege and training give confidence . Without knowlege and training ,a "confident " person is meerly a fool and will get hurt. But clearly you are not a fool as you have realised the problem. Where to go for help. Ask your local huntsman for some advice. They are profesionals and tend to know everyone in the district. They will know who to send you to , or your local BHS approved training centre. I am sorry but since I am in Surrey ,I have no connections local to you, but please persevere and look for good help.(and anyone who says that he just needs a good hiding should be avoided at all costs!)

Have you put this on the regional board too OP ?
If not do so You might get more ideas .
I hope you find someone good to help you I am miles and miles away so can't help with any names.
