Hi all,

Never come over to AAD before, but the time has finally come (almost) when I can get a dog!

Hubby and I have just bought a house that we are having done up. Its in a very rural area so lots of space and walks to be had. The house itself is quite spacious but the garden is a small courtyard, with a bed for flowers/possibly grass should doggy need it.

I've been spending alot of time looking at breeds and have fallen in love with Boston terriers. I have read that they are great companion dogs, very intelligent, love to learn, very affectionate and don't require masses of space or hours of exercise.

I was just wondering if anyone on here has one and can tell me a little more about their experiences! Will I be able to manage having just a courtyard garden? I don't work so will be home all the time and should I go out, the dog will come too!

Thanks!

I have a Pug x Boston terrier, I would say he's more BT than pug in the way he acts though.. definitely more obedient! From what you've described, it sounds like a perfect set up for a small dog. The fact that you're going to be there most of the time is what's important. Mine is very loyal and loves human company. I have another little pug and they are quite happy left together, but he will make it clear that he wants to be with us if he knows we are in the house. Definitely a good choice of breed!

Prosefullstop on here has a Boston. Agree, do your research and don't be in a hurry, go for a really good breeder who health tests, they are expensive dogs and if I was paying hundreds I'd be insisting on good results for all the health tests on both parents. Good breeders should be tripping over themselves to prove their credentials, show you certificates etc.

Thanks CC that's very helpful.

Have been reading up on the health problems side of things and am aware of the tests and certificates that need to be shown etc.

Am in no rush and probably won't be looking seriously until September/October time.

Just gathering some advice and opinions! Thanks all so far! :)
