Hi Guys

just looking for some advice - have a 2 year old that is out at youngstock livery and is very much enjoying being in a herd of friends. I pop up to check every few weeks and have noticed that he has some bot eggs on his front legs. Have been trying to remove as many as possible (easier said than done in a herd full of playful youngsters and not really feasible to traipse him down to the yard) but am now concerned I’m not able to remove them all as an not up daily. He’s on a regular worming programme and checked daily by staff - just looking to hear people experiences/stories.

In my 15 years of horses been lucky enough not to have had to deal with them before

I haven't seen them for years but most of the horses at our yard have them this year. Nit comb proving useful! I'm just going to make sure I worm in Autumn because there's no way I've removed all the eggs

This is the first year I've had them since I've been on my yard, (been there about 6 hrs) that I've had bot eggs, I use a hessian backed mit or bot knife to get them off and will make sure I worm for them in Autumn

I've found about half a dozen eggs on my boy's legs so far - so able to pick off with finger nails. I always give his legs a good spraying with fly repellent - seems to help.

Can you catch him? I’ve put a bailing twine tie on the gate so I can keep hold of my horse while I put on his boots. Could you do similar to groom/check him? Take a lava stone/bot knife/flyspray in a grooming bag or bucket so you don’t have to bring him in.

First time I've seen them here in years. I will also be worming because they disappeared off his legs PDQ, before I had a chance.

We always have quite bad bot eggs here and despite getting rid of them am and pm when feeding the neds, for two years in a row when I had same horse scoped in sept/oct for ulcers they were in the stomach. After seeing them the first year I was even more careful and yet they were still there when I scoped the second time so now I just make sure I worm every october
