Hi, as above - finally got a new perfectly fitting saddle for Orla (via Nigel from T&C Robinsons - learnt so much from him about my horse, he is so knowledgeable!

Anyway, I now need to buy a bridle and was wondering what sort to go for - do I need to buy a huge brand or are the cheaper ones just as good?

Thanks!!

- he is nice isn't he!! What sort of saddle did you end up with out of interest?

As for bridles - I would get a leather one and preferably english leather. My spare bridle is a leather one and was about £30/40 and is perfectly good.

How is Orla settling in??

Hi, I would say you don't necessarily have to go for one of the top brands, but if you buy a bridle from a reputable brand, made with good quality leather it's probably going to last you much longer than a cheaper one and clean up better aswell. If you don't want to spend a fortune have a look on www.lovemelovemyhorse.co.uk. It has really good deals on GFS and pessoa bridles which are lovely.

So long as it is good quality english or german leather you can't really go wrong- cheaper imported stuff is a false economy as it genuinely doesn't last

I paid £100 for a Kate Negus bridle 5yrs ago and it still looks and feels like new!! It is beautiful! They are probably at the pricier end of the spectrum but I was reassured that the cost goes into the manufacturing and leather quality and not just the 'brand name'

I bought a new Paul Jones GP - Nigel tried about 10 over 2 occasions but no others fit at all! Orla is quite short backed. It's a 16.5 W. Very comfortable with lovely knee rolls to keep me in place!!

Orla is settling in nicely. She is very calm and easy! Comes straight over to me when in the field and lets me put her head collar on (and I do tend to still faff about a bit putting all her tack on but she is so patient!

- I will get better at everything soon!!)

Tried lungeing her today but it was a bit of a disaster, so having another lungeing lesson in the morning!!

But in terms of a bridle - as long as I buy a decent leather I can't go far wrong?!

I've got a Collegiate one which is kind of middle of the road price wise. It is really good quality and still looks like new (I have had it for nearly two years). I got mine from horseloverz.co.uk when it was on offer.
