Hello, me again. So I’ve taken the plunge and bought a 3 year old ID x TB. Really calm nature been to see him few times. I’m picking him up next week and they seller has said he’s only travelled in a lorry (when he was delivered to him) I have a 505 the seller doesn’t seem to think I will have an issue loading I have full breast bars and partition out (I still have partition) Any advice on how to go about collecting him ? I’m I overthinking?

What you have is a float/trailer/box, not a lorry? I would imagine it would be quite different since he's never travelled in anything but a lorry before.

If it were me, I'd assume it will take a while to quietly load him, and be mentally prepared.

I’m going to collect him early and planning on taking my time. They owner thinks he be absolutely fine, I’ll take loads of treats and we’re only 40 mins down the road just hope he behaves 🙈

Firstly, what a lovely horse you are going to have ( my favourite cross bred).

I've found, most yearlings load very well in a trailer with a welcoming straw bed with a little straw on the ramp and a tasty bucket of food to guide them on board.

When I bought my most recent one he was 4yo and had only travelled on a lorry 3 times in his life. I turned up with my trailer. I asked the old owner to load him as they knew him and he trusted them. They used a bucket of feed to tempt him in and I made it clear that they could take as long as they needed for him to be happy to load. He was no fuss and was on in about 10 minutes. I'd rather no have one with no loading experience than one that is known to be difficult!

Take some Rescue Remedy with you just in case........... couple of drops in a hollowed out carrot will do the trick if needed.

Congrats on your new horse.. When we collected my 15 month old who had never travelled before I arranged for a friend with a small lorry to transport her and we also bought a well travelled pony with us for company. It was a 2 hour journey though not a short one..

I hope he likes treats...I only say this because I've never been able to get my (now 2 year old) to eat a single treat. He values his regular feed though! He will eat apples, and entertain the thought of a carrot or pear, but treats, nope! Weirdo.

You do "owe" us pics tho!
