It was a toss up between that and Outshine. Outshine was in the region of 14 for 5kg and you need to feed about 225g a day.

The raw linseed oil was 22 for 5l and says 50ml a day.

In the shop I thought that sounded the better deal. Now not sure whether I have bought the right thing and 50ml might not be enough anyway for weight gain/shine??

Should I take the raw oil back and order some micronised linseed? This is for my warmblood x who is quite a poor doer and doesn't eat huge amounts of food at once. He's currently living out with 2 x feeds of approx 1kg baileys no 4 and topspec comp balancer, plus a handful of chaff. He looks much better than he did but still a bit rangy.

Stick with the linseed oil and feed according to instuctions. It will do wonders for coat and digestion. It is always a basic part of our feeding regieme, cant recomend it enough.

In my experience a fussy eater is more likely to eat the micronised Linseed. One of my girls won't touch her feed if there is oil in it but tucks in with micronised linseed.

If using for coat then use the oil, if using for weight gain then micronised is the better option as you get a feed sack of it - I was using a coffee mug full in each feed for my TB and the sack was lasting about 4 months - £5 a month :)

I use the micronised as it's the whole linseed, easy to feed and stores well. Think it works out cheaper too.

Now you've got the oil then use it but you may find the micronised is more cost effective in the long run. You need to be more careful how you store the oil i.e. needs to be kept cool

For feeding rates, rough rule of thumb for a big horse (580kg - 600kg) for the health benefits then 200g of micronised linseed or 60ml of cold pressed oil.

You can up this for weight gain if needed.

Get the Charnwood Micronised Linseed though, best value for money
