Bought unseen problems returning

I'm not sure if I should post this but it seems like he went through a sale a month ago. Someone commented on the trace my horse post.

Bless him, it sounds like he's been passed around a bit and it explains a heck of a lot. Poor bugger probably doesn't know if he's coming or going.

There you go, green and been out of work!

Well that explains a bit too.

He's been sold at a sale on 24 May as green and needing bringing back into work by a confident rider.

Quick search of the sale shows top sales prices for horses were circa £3000. There is mention of an 8 year old ridden gelding at 2800 guineas.

So the dealer has made a substantial profit in a very short period of time. And the horse has left the home he knows, gone through a sale, gone to a dealer and is now in a new home. Also explains why he's unsettled.

Given the descriptions, he hasn't been sold honestly by the dealer - he's not an RDA ready-made. But also based on what I can see, he seems a better type than his dealer advert has let on.

If you can persevere, and subject to vetting, you may have a lovely little horse.

Not as much profit as some suggested though. £3000 or there abouts is a fair price if you ask me.

I don't mind having a moan but I am generally not one for opening up as I have done today I think I was just at the end of my tether and I think it does good to explain why I react to some things the way I do. I am definately not one to do therapy or speak to professionals apart from the Dr's and that's with regards to my medication. They have suggested seeing someone but it's not for me.

I found my sessions very helpful :)

Oh I know what my rights are but I also get the impression I am not likely to get a refund. He still insists his trumped up terms and conditions stand. I have not spoken to him for a few days and I don't intend to again. I have tried CAB and Trading Standards but they are not the easiest to get hold of and Trading Standards send you to CAB if you try and fill on an online form out. Even this cannot be done until Friday pm through to Monday strangely. I sent my solicitor an email and have received no reply. Why can't these people be there for the job they are supposed to do. My only other option is BHS but you have to be a Gold member and it's expensive.

I think you probably won't get any money from these people, but you could sell on either now at a loss or in the future at a potential good profit.

I went to the stables and they said they haven't had any issues turning him out or bringing him back in. When I went to the field he was in he came over to check us out, had some apple, got chased away by the resident older gent in the field and went back to munching his grass. The YO has said if I want them to do some work with him then they can do that obviously not free of charge. Did I want to do some work with him tomorrow on my riding lesson, not riding him but some ground work. Is that too soon or a good idea. If not I will just have my usual lesson on one of their horses.

WOW! That's so exciting!! It's a great idea, in my opinion.
You get to work with your own horse, with help available, in a safe and secure area.
Hope all goes well

Wow I cannot believe what I have read. It's late and I am tired so will reply tomorrow. At the moment Devine Cobs is now threatening me with solicitors for slating him on Facebook. Just telling the truth sorry it hurts lol.

I hope it gives you some peace of mind and confidence that he's not a bad sort, and now you know a bit more of his story hopefully it'll make things easier going forwards.

I'd block the dealer and not give him another thought. I'm not a lawyer but I considering he's totally misrepresented the horse, and as long as what you say is true, I doubt he has a leg to stand on. 💐💐💐

Did you screenshot the ad?

Screenshot both the Devine Cobs ad and the Facebook ad for the sales, and keep copies of both.

And don't stress, they can't sue you for slating the horse. The post I saw said he has some quirks. That's not sufficient for any kind of legal action. How childish of them.
I've grabbed screenshots of both, happy to pass them on.

I read the RDA Mother/Daughter share line as would make a good one rather than already doing the job. People say horses might do all sorts of things in adverts.

I don't think what the dealer said is a million miles away from what the original owner said. They describe him as good on the ground, quiet, friendly and ridden by a 10 year old but needs bringing back into work. The videos on the previous owner's Facebook page show him behaving and standing quietly while someone clambers on bareback in the dark.

Now past the initial blip in a new place when he was stressed, he seems to be behaving for the yard staff. He didn't misbehave the one time ridden so lots of positive things suggesting he may not be difficult.

Ive been in the shadows and not read all of the thread but just wanted to say, OP, Ozzy looks absolutely adorable. The poor dude doesn't look like he's had a fair start but his face in those photos to me, shows a gentleness IMO. Whether he is right for you longer term or not, only time can really tell and you will need to decide but I would definitely do my best to make him feel safe first and then lots of groundwork and just spending time with him. Your only job is to get him to understand that he is in safe hands - that could be as simple as a positive grooming session, it could be going on a small walk or walk around the school, it could be anything. A bond may form or it may not.

PS I love his eyelashes!! 🥰🥰

I think you’ve just added things that weren’t said. No one else has.
Also, IF you read the thread, you’ll see OP said heart etc were checked and were fine.
Jasmine, I hope you find your YO helpful today, and I hope that you feel better after seeing the horse and Yo. 🩷
??🤪 Gen. Zed, I presume?
Whatever issues a vet might miss, for sure you get ten out of ten for missing the point.
Far more importantly: great to hear that OP has learned such encouraging news about Ozzy, very optimistic, so pleased!

I would have read those sorts of things into it too, but OP as an inexperienced buyer, buying unseen, clearly didn't.

I don't think putting RDA / mother daughter share on the label of a horse which, a week before, was sold as green and needing a confident rider to bring back into work is responsible.

I think that if you put those two adverts together, it should be enough to at the very least get the dealer off her back re slander.

I wouldn't return him personally, subject to vet advice. I think he'll be lovely if he's sound.

(worth saying that it would be different if he was sold privately, but this is a commercial sale not a private sale)

I would take him and help you in a heartbeat but Im in Scotland!
Give him some time, spend some time with him, once he has had a few weeks of downtime to get used to his new surroundings.
Just start with the very basics as any new horse owner would, get to know the horse you have. You can do this! You will create an amazing bond with him.
Personally I dont think you have a bad little horse there, from what I read he has had some bad experiences and he has just forgotten his way, like us horses can also be affected by their mental health too, Yes he is not in the best condition muscle wise but that can be fixed.

Im not surprised if you are very overwhelmed at the moment, feel free to pm me with any questions you may have if you want to.

I'm not sure he has even had particularly bad experiences, other than being moved around through different homes a bit; he sounds unsettled and who can blame him
I think he's going to be great, and really hope the OP will let us know how it's going when she feels up to it

Also agree he will be great 🥰

I am glad things are looking a bit better for you. It sounds like even if he is not the horse for you he could be lovely for someone else. With a bit of work you could maybe sell him on to a good home.
However, given time and some work he may be just what you are looking for.
If it were me I would still go ahead with getting him insured, vet checked and up to date with all the basics. ie jabs, teeth, feet back etc. I am glad you are feeling confident enough to do some ground work etc.
Once you have him insured, should there be any issues you can get them investigated and at least know IF there are any physical problems.
Once thats all done you will be in a better position to know whats what.
In the mean time you may find he could be what you want after all.
Good luck with him!

Well that Facebook footage shows a very green pony but a willing one. Personally I would spend a little time each day getting to know him slowly and build his trust. He is already showing progress, now that he is having regular turnout, by coming over to the gate to interact with people. If you can ask if you can be there for either/both turnout/bringing in, give him a gentle groom or even just some gentle hands over him so that you can build that bond. I think he could turn out to be a smashing pony and the unpleasant experience with the vet will become a minor blip put down to a very stressed pony at the time. Above all, keep yourself safe and work with what you have. If he’s uncomfortable being groomed, just stroke. Don’t go sitting in his stable just yet but work with him on the yard. If you go down intending to do something with him and get there and really don’t feel like it, then don’t. Take it one step at a time at both yours and his pace. It may take time but I think you may have the pony you were after. I wish you well - be brave and don’t hesitate to ask the livery yard for support when you need it.

He is gorgeous ❤️ I am sure if you don’t end up keeping him one of us will take him, he has such a kind eye.
I have to say that if I wasn't so old and didn't have so many horses I would have put an offer in just after this thread started. I instantly liked him and thought one could make something of him.

Not being a great SM technophobe I have found SM here to be great. People were trying to work out if this was really a problem horse or if he just had a few minor upsets settling in and would be fine. Just a few pics and a video and we can see exactly what we are talking about.

Jasmine must be shattered this morning after last night. Hope you are OK. :):) Ozzie is going to be a real cuddlebucket. Give him a few days.
