One of my horses has a mane that really bugs me. It's slinky and straight when long, but if pulled/chopped to a smart length, it flies up like a Mohican and makes my 17h wb look like a grotty bog pony.

What do you do with manes like this? Straighteners?

Ta :)

I will keep a close eye on this thread, my mare also sports a rather dashing Mohawk and I have no idea how to get it down! :)

I have an actual bog pony (connie x I think) with a nightmare mohican bog brush mane. If I pull it short then it just sticks up and looks stupid. Its really thick so I have to leave it quite long to be able to plait for competitions. So I leave it longer but thin it loads. I've given up with it tbh and as long as it looks reasonable when plaited, I try to ignore the fact he looks like a scruff the rest of the time! Resigned to him always having a bog brush mane as even when I do leave it longer, ot still sticks up so he looks like he's been electrocuted! !

Doesn't sound promising! I much prefer a neat short mane, but will have to leave it longer - cant stand the mohawk on him, doesn't suit him at all! Either that or try the ghds!

I've got a Connie x and exactly the same problem. As soon as it's short enough to plait ... whooosh! He does an impression of a Fjord.

He looks even dafter because I leave his forelock long to help keep the flies off.

My old TB had a zebra mane until I stopped pulling, used a mane rake and
scissors to keep on top of it. We never had a issue again!
