I was just wondering what people's opinions were on the Bowen Technique?
I have always been very much into vets, drugs & medicines when it came to veterinary care & was very skeptical about 'alternative therapies' or 'natural healing'.
However a couple of years ago my mare came down mysteriously lame in her right fore leg. I spent a year alongside the vet trying to diagnose what the problem was, we went down every avenue & tried everything from nerve blocks to x-rays to a bone scan but could not find the root of the problem. I think the vet practically gave up in the end.
I was recommended Bowen Therapy & a very good practitioner, totally exhausted by it all thought it was worth a go. Mo had 3 45 minute sessions & she was sound again & I have been able to show her again since. Ok she has had her stiff days since but she is 17 now & nothing I can't work her through. I am completely converted now & would recommend it to anyone!
Does anyone else have any positive experiences from using the Bowen Technique?

I am for, for, for!

I have no idea how it works and am always dismissive of 'happy clappy' treatments, but was persuaded to have a treatment on my horse. Well, the result was fantastic, he was so much looser and freer, and without the wrenching of a chiro etc.

I then had further treatments on myself as I am a wonky donk too, and it was superb, I was straightened up and de-wonked, and the results lasted.

I would use Bowen as a regular, maintenance therapy, as I have no desire to have manipulative work done to my horse unless he has a problem that my vet thinks would best be treated by physio/chiro (as applicable).

For!!!!!!

I tried it as a last ditch attempt at 'curing' my mare, and was completely bowled over by the success - even after one treatment she was a different horse, she went onto have a further two treatments in a couple of weeks and is now having maintenance treatments as and when they are needed.

My other horses are regularly Bowen'd now too, and I don't know how we managed before we discovered it.

I'm definately for!!

I have Bowen therapy and I have a different Bowen Therapist for my girl

Even if all seems OK we still have an annual check

I'd never heard of it until today when this women turned up at our yard wanting to practice Touch on ours which she said was similar to Bowen.

My mare has a history of back trouble and she said she felt pretty good but we had just got back from a ride but even still I was pleased.

I'll see how she is when we go out tomorrow.

I was as sceptical as the next person but had a qualified Bowen Therapist for a pony with a spinal injury. All vet treatment had been exhausted. The therapist has definately improved the quality of life for this little filly....

wow... youve just given me a great idea! thanks guys! friends mum is a bowen practitioner, may have to ask her if she fancies having a go at a horse...

Definitely for!

I've been at a bit of a loss with my boy recently - it takes ages to get him to soften and relax into a contact and outline. And then someone else rode him for me when he was being particularly naughty and suggested it might help.

I was away with flu for 10 days and gave him the time off. When we started work again I was amazed at how well he responded to my aids and felt more able to sit correctly because I wasn't tensed up myself. I just thought it was because he'd had some time off. Took me 5 days to realise that this lady at the yard had used the technique on him. She said he was tense in his shoulders.

The difference is incredible - 64% in a dressage test yesterday! And medium trot you would die for. When my instructor saw me do it his jaw pretty much hit the ground and it takes a lot to impress him!

Another empahatic FOR!!!!!

Both me and the horses.....cured my chronic sciatica when all the NHS had left to offer was spinal surgery! The horses love it and its keeping my veteran in '3 year old' mode!!

very very much for

My horse was lame on and off on both fronts. Also very reluctant to go forwards (4 year old) and generally looked stiff and not right.
He was coming sound on nerve blocks and had bad hoof balance.
4 weeks ago was shod at vets, 3-4/10ths lame on lunge, vet suspected collateral ligament damage, we where checking the lamness again (last week) and if still lame he was going for MRI.

Took him back and he was sound. He has had 3 bowen sessions and i have been using magnetic boots.
Vet was quite impressed at such a change in short period(4weeks kept in light work), as although foot balance was the problem he suspected soft tissue damage, he wasnt lame at all!
farrier had originally said 3-4 shoeing should see a real improvement.

I also took him out the other day and he was forward! this is the horse i have had to kick on the whole way. lunged him last night and he was so keen to move. it was great!

Another for here.

Dunno how it works and don't particularly care.... but WOW

which reminds me i think my two are due for a top up!

Defo for. me and the horse. he quite often lies down and goes to sleep during a session. it is incredibly relaxing and works. What more can you want?

For!!

Again, not really sure how it works but it has made a very obvious difference to my boy - he is booked in for another session tomorrow.

I can recommend someone from the Worcester area if anyone wants a name

yep, agree with above. Used it on my own horse when i got him-he was very sore in his back and hindquarters as a result of a badly fitting sadle and too heavy rider (not myself i should add!) and he had about 4 sessions of bowen therapy-it was excellent!
I would happy using either a traditional physio or a bowen therapist for back problems.
