Has anyone had this done to either themselves or their horses?

Toby had Bowen lady out yest just as I wanted to see if he was OK, he felt slighty tight under saddle too, so she came out worked with him, chatting away to me about things, she then proceeded to his right side as she was working the muscles she called me to have a look - his muscles were twitching quite a bit in the saddle region, she said that this will get better on the next treatment, then she did some more on that side and also did his shoulder again the right hand side one was tender for him, Toby is a placid very good natured boy but apparently she had to have small words with him about this...(obviously sore)

She didn't work on his face, as it was his 1st time of having this done.

Toby really relaxed into it too he seemed like he was enjoying himself.

The lady said that he can't be touched or groomed for a week then again after that treatment he can't be groomed, thus allowing the muscles to do their thing!?!

It is sooo hard not to groom him (he's a mucky fleabitten grey) hmmm and not to give him his daily hugs and pats.
She also mentioned that his body temprature may drop - but he sweated instead, she advised that he wore at least a fleece overnight, well he didn't he didn't have any jarmies on as it's far too hot at the moment and he was boiling hot after wearing a lightweight turnout rug for a couple of hours.

Be interesting to know if anyone else has had this treatment and if it really does work!!

Not done a bowen therapy, but just done regular deep massage on a very sore horse who was very tight - heat, massage and then stretches, then more heat, which has resulted in a much happier horse who is getting looser and free'r :)
Next step is strengthening the muscles, usually by long-reining or specific in hand work :)

I spent ALOT of money using someone who practiced this and it did not make that much of a difference to be perfectly honest. In fact, I ended up spending even more correcting everything and buying new tack!

My advice to you would be get a McTimmothy registered chiro/physio out and you will save yourself and your horse alot of time and money.

:)

I don't understand personally what the difference would be?
So maybe someone could point this out to me???

I used to use Jenny Hadland on my old boy all the time, as he suffered a bad back quite often, so he would have a ultrasound treatment done regularly.
jenny is a top equine physio for the southern region.

Yes, I've had it done, also my daughter and we have had various horses treated too. Sometimes for a specific problem and also as a check up for an eventer. It works for us!:p:)

Perhaps you mean McTimoney :D

My dogs and horses have had Bowen, they all love it but tbh I'm not sure it makes much difference unless it's done very regularly. I have done an Equine Touch course which is very similar - and again they love it, but it doesn't really match up to getting a qualified professional physio/chiropractor/osteo.
