I have a deep mistrust of back people but I do need to get someone out to look at Louie as he's a little stiff on one rein and has uneven muscle development. At a show today I met a bowen therapist who seemed really lovely and we got talking and gave me her card. I know next to nothing about bowen therapy so would love good or bad experiences and of course recommendations. :)

I've had a Bowen therapist out (for me) and she was really good. I couldn't stand anyone touching my back hence not going for the more brutal sports massage at the time.

She helped a lot, and she told me what she thought the problem was (hypermobility) a couple of years before the doctors thought of it despite multiple visits!

I have had Bowen therapy, on me. Three years ago I couldn't lift my arms up above waist level, my husband had to help me dress. Doctors had no idea why, after xrays and physio it was still the same. Tried Bowen therapy and after four sessions I was back to normal. So it's a big yes from me.

Came across this recently on a poster in a doctors' waiting room - was utterly horrified that they'd promote an alternative therapy in such a place, that makes it seem legit by association

Anyway, check out the wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowen_technique

Bowen himself had no therapeutic or medical training, describing the approach as a "gift from God"

Despite referring to himself as an osteopath and attempting to join the Australian register of osteopaths in 1981, Bowen did not qualify for the title

There is no rigorous research supporting the Bowen technique

... not something I'd be paying for.

Im a yea , cured my saddle of slipping over to one side as she found my mares pelvis was out and my horse found the treatment very relaxing . All it took was one treatment .

If the person you met was Poppy Webber, go for it, she's brilliant! both me and my ponies have benefited massively from Bowen Therapy from Poppy.
